Baking data to Formit

Does anyone know if it is possible to bake data into Formit? I would like to share a file that contains both the geometry, the possibility to work with it and a couple of values that come out when calculating on Dynamo.

Thanks for the help!

Hi @Anonymous,

When you bake Dynamo geometry into FormIt, you're actually embedding the entire Dynamo script along with it. So you could have Watch nodes or other data outputs available in the script, and after baking to FormIt, you could make the changes you want to the Dynamo sliders in the Properties panel, run the graph to get the updated geometry in FormIt, then click "Edit in Dynamo" to view the resulting data outputs in the Dynamo graph.

Currently, there's no way to surface those data outputs in FormIt, so you have to open the embedded graph to see them. We've considered adding the ability to view data from Watch nodes or other outputs in the FormIt Properties panel when editing a Dynamo Group. Would this be useful to you? Perhaps this would accomplish the "bake data into FormIt" workflow you're after. If not, let us know how you envision baking non-geometric data into FormIt, so we can explore this for a future release!

Thanks for writing in,

Hi Josh,

I am thinking about reading the area level parameter from Form-it directly into Dynamo (running from Form-it). I ve seen that you have developed an API, but so far I have not been able to find any information about Dynamo using the Form-itAPI. It seems that is not working like Dynamo for Revit. I would really apreciate any kind of help.

Hi Luis,

For now, Dynamo is not able to communicate with FormIt's API in the same way it communicates with Revit.

However, we are working on bringing FormIt and Dynamo closer than ever, and this type of interaction is certainly something we're exploring.

Stay tuned, and thanks for the feedback.
