Hot rolled steel profiles

Hi everybody,

I would need a quick and easy way, more for marketing purpose than for pure structural engineering, to draw or better IMPORT steel profiles (HEB sections for example) in FormIt.

Is this possible to be done?

I need to produce 3D drawings with some detailings about the floor beam used and FormIt would be really nice since it is compatible with Revit and my files could be modified by the design office.

Hi Dario - it depends on what file type you have the profiles in already. Let us know some more details.

From the sound of it you need to

  • Import your profiles to FormIt
  • Save the FormIt version into a folder
  • Link the content library to your FormIt model
  • Drag and drop the models from a 'content library'
  • Save and load into Revit

There are lots of mini-steps and best practices in between these bullet point steps - so please elaborate!

Tobias

Ok I am not a great expert, but I try
I am working in a marketing division and what I need is to produce a 3D
sketch (then FormIt is perfect) for example of a multistorey parking space.
The idea is to have in FormIt a library (like AutoCad blocks in my mind)
with the steel profiles already drawn (HEB, HL, IPE..the standard hot
rolled profiles if you are familiar with) to sketch some details of one
beam, the floor system and so on.
In this way I was considering that an engineer could use my FormIt file,
import it in Revit where I know that these libraries of steel profiles are
existing and perform some verifications or use my sketch as a first step
for his design.

Is this possible to be done?

Maybe it is easier with some pictures.

I would need to reproduce this kind of coverage with FormIt.

Then Import it in Revit and assign the material properties of the castellated beam and the slab.

To obtain your photo and maintain the flexibility of Formit.  I would suggest the most effective soltion is simplified extrusions, with Representative materials applied.
