Poor contextual data quality. How to import buildings?

Hi,

Spacemaker does not have quality data in some countries I work with according to the contextual data sources posted here in the forum. I wonder if I can import data I have from another supplier.

Hi @PetroGiancotti,
Our team is working with several data suppliers to increase data availability around the world. However, you can always bring your own data 😀There is a great article on this workflow in our help center.  

I will try to summarize the basics:

1. Ensure your file is compatible

   1. Import buildings (basic volumes/boxes without detailed architectural elements like windows OR meshes) and terrain separately. 

   2. Clean up overlapping geometries and gaps in plan and section

2. Georeference volumes. 

   If your model is not referenced you have 2 options:
   a) Move your model to the coordinates provided in your BIM manual or a BIM coordinator;*
   b) Export the site from Spacemaker (take note of the coordinate system you used in the export), import it to your software and move the whole project to the same location as the site polygon from Spacemaker.
   
   *Some softwares like Rhino and Sketchup do not deal with coordinate systems and are just a neutral world, it is reliant on you basing your model on a file that is referenced. This means that if you e.g. import the drawing base sent from your map provider, that package is georeferenced in a specific coordinate system. If you then draw at that place and do not move those maps to 0,0,0 (origo), your model should be in the right location.
   
   

3. Import the buildings to Spacemaker via the library menu accessible on the left-hand side of your browser.

Hi, thanks for information. When I try to analyze daylight or view (for example) the program read those imported buildings as part of the "building/project" I´m working on (even when they are outside of the site limit). How can I transform them as "surrounding buildings"?

Hi,

Imported buildings are currently treated as one group of elements, and unfortunately there is no way to transform/separate the buildings. If you have defined a site limit or zone for analysis which have some imported buildings within the area, the analysis will be performed on the entire area of the imported buildings. We are looking into how we can improve this.

Actually, Spacemaker had this feature, but it is no longer available? In a legacy project, I can import an IFC and convert to invidivual buildings...
