Import geometry to create a constraint

Quite often when working on complex sites with complex zoning regulations, the geometry of zoning constraints can get complex.  It would be great if we could import geometry from other platforms and turn that imported geometry into a constraint within FORMA.  Does anyone have any solutions?

Hi. Great question!

While Forma doesn’t currently support directly converting imported geometry into constraints, here are a few workflows you can try:

  • Import geometry and trace it using the Constraint tool to recreate the constraints.

  • Import a reference image (such as zoning plans) and use it as a template to manually draw the constraints.

You might find these resources helpful:
- Import reference images and how to use them in your design process
- Defining the site constraints and create your first proposal

Yes... We have already been using the "import and trace" workaround, but it could be so much easier, if you could just import geometry and make it a constraint.  This multi-step process you suggest, just slows down workflow, and duplicates work.    Heres another question for you... Could you allow us to import geometry, and assign it a transparency and color, to fake the look of a constraing?
