Floor Area Metric, Unit Types, and House Types: How to Convert a 3D Sketch into a House Type

Hi, We're currently working on an urban development project. The capabilities and restrictions of the house type tool didn't allow us to achieve the building typologies we were looking for, so we constructed our houses using the 3D Sketch tool. However, when viewing the area metric analysis, it shows the data as fractured/separate units instead of as a complete house with the total floor area. This isn't a problem for our apartment buildings, but it does cause issues when trying to see the full distribution of our buildings/apartments.

Is there any way to fix this or convert a 3D sketch to count as a house type? In the attached image, we have our building shown in red with two rooms of 64m² and one of 44m², compared to the house type with a total area of 192m² across three floors of 64m².

Thanks in advance, Oliver N.

Hi Oliver!

Thanks for posting and pointing this out.

It's not currently possible to make a 3D Sketch building output its metrics in the same manner as a House, but I'll bring this back to the team and make sure we have this suggestion recorded.

We appreciate the feedback!

Thanks Josh, that's great.

While on the house type topic, might I suggest adding a Rotation Option for Individual House Type Placement.

I've noticed when using the "singles" placement option for house types, there is currently, no way to pre-set the orientation of houses before placing them. This leads to two time-consuming workarounds:

  1. Place all houses first, then rotate each one individually using the rotate tool
  2. Place one building, rotate it, then copy and paste it multiple times (which may require additional rotation adjustments)

This limitation essentially makes the individual placement option inefficient compared to the copy/paste method. Adding a rotation option before placement would greatly improve the workflow when placing multiple individual house types.

Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Oliver N.

Hi Oliver, thanks for your valuable feedback!

There is a way to rotate the houses while placing them individually, but it is a bit hidden. If you click and keep the mouse button pressed down, you can move the mouse cursor to the side and thereby specify the orientation of the house. I appreciate that this interaction can be a bit unfamiliar, but hopefully it should make the workflow you describe a bit easier.

Best regards, Vegard
