Converting volumes into buildings LOD2

Hi Forma,

I'm working on a retrofitting project that requires editing existing buildings. You recently made the LOD2 building layer available in The Netherlands, which I'm glad with in general.

However, I noticed it isn't possible with LOD2 to convert volumes into buildings by adding floors.  As a result I can't edit the volumes.

With LOD1 it is possible, but it doesn't have the level of detail I need.

Therefore, I am wondering if you plan to add the editing possiblity to LOD2 as well?

Hi Astrid!

Thanks for bringing this up. An excellent place for us to unlock more power in Forma!

Because these LOD2 buildings feature 3D geometries, we'll need to harness the power of 3D Sketch to add floors and enrich them into proper Forma Buildings. 

We can look into adding this capability. No promises on a specific date, but rest assured this is (and has been!) on our radar.

I'll reply here when we have an update.

We're excited to announce the first phase of an improvement here: You can now edit LOD2 surrounding buildings in 3D Sketch, which allows you to add floors to the geometry once inside the 3D Sketch mode. 

Here's what this looks like:

We're also working to allow adding floors directly to the building, without jumping into the 3D Sketch mode first. It will become a 3D Sketch element still, but won't require you to edit it there first. 

Look for that soon. I'll update here when it's ready.

We've now released the ability to directly add floors to these types of buildings without entering 3D Sketch first. 🎉

This will still convert the surrounding building to a 3D Sketch element under the hood, but you don't have to enter the edit mode just to add floors.
