Making multiple building layers in base

I'm importing my proposal into Rhino. It imports the base layers as different objects (buildings, vegetation, etc).

The issue arises when I want to edit a layer/object that has several different color-coded uses. Specifically, the building layer has several colo-coded uses (industrial, residential, etc). In Rhino and edits edit all of them. I can't effect each use individually. Is there a way I can separate the uses into individual discrete layers in Forma (residential as one building layer, industrial as another) so when I open in Rhino I can edit them separately.

Unfortunately that is not possible at the moment @bcantor000. We rely on volumeMesh representation, and so the whole building is represented as a mesh.

I realized that my question was a little jumbled. So, to confirm, I can't make multiple separate volumemesh layers? Like have one that's the grouped residential and one that's commercial

No sorry. Its not possible to turn a building into layers in Forma, and for that reason the building and its properties are brought to Rhino in their entirety as a volumeMesh.
