Forma <> Rhino 8 Plugin support

Hi, 

As with many companies out there, we're migrating our Rhino licences over to Rhino 8 to leverage some of the new feature improvements. 

In initial testing, the Forma plugin isn't compatible as the version of .net has changed in Rhino 8. Are there any plans to update this soon.  We would really like to continue our Forma <> Rhino interoperability testing.

The Forma Addins v 0.7.0 works with Rhino 8 but still needs Rhino to run with admin rights.

Regular users will not see the Forma interface window in Rhino. However, the command bar will show. "Opened main panel." which is very confusing.

This is a significant issue that was already broadly reported in v0.6.0 last year. As you can see, it makes the plugin unusable in a professional environment where regular users are not typically granted admin rights.

I appreciate that the software is still in beta. Hopefully, this problem will be resolved upon its official release.

Hi Celene,

This error dialog means that something is preventing the plugin from loading. Can you please check the following for me?

1. Is Rhino 8 running in netfx mode?

2. What other plugins do you have loaded? Can you try disabling them one by one and see if that helps?

Hi,

Could you please verify with your IT that you have the Net 7 runtime installed? Rhino 8 is still based on Net 7. The problem with that is that since June, it is no longer supported:

It is possible that your IT department removed it and the standard framework files used by the plugin are now missing and preventing the plugin from loading.

We will update the plugin to Net 8 as soon as a supported version of Rhino is released.

It is possible to have news about compatibility with Rhino 8? I wont buy forma after the prove version if it's always like this. 

The plugin doesn't run.

So it still not compatible, I thought this had been solved a while ago.
I tried this morning with Forma Plug-in for Rhino v0.7.14, didn't work.
Any plans for the next update ?

I have already given a solution to this problem almost a year ago. You need to run Rhino 8 with admin rights. It is not ideal, but it works.

Yes, there is a work around sure but we are asking about a fix to the original bug ? 
Is it present on the update roadmap ? I think it was related .net 8 problems.

There is still no fix for Rhino 8 and Forma in 09/12/2025.
Appealing. In a work environment, nobody has admin privileges. Please fix this.

I’ve noticed the same issue with Rhino 8. It would be great if the Forma plugin could be updated soon — definitely important for smoother interoperability.
