Call for feedback: Forma Board

Forma board is a new addition to Forma, released in April. Since this is something very new to AEC tools in general, we are very interested in feedback from our customers who have used the board - what worked in your experience, where you faced challenges, what you’d like to see supported the see supported in the future etc.

As stated in our product update, the board intends to "be about your design story and process. It is the flexible companion to Forma’s design and analysis tools allowing you to piece together your ideas, process, and narrative so you can involve your colleagues and project stakeholders the way you want to."  At its core then, the board is a digital whiteboard but built into Forma it allows you to work closely with your design proposals and analysis results e.g.

1. Presenting trade-offs between several proposals.
2. Providing project status leveraging analysis-driven insights.
3. Keep a process trail for your design.

In looking for feedback we are particularly interested to hear about:

• What kind of problem or use case did you want to use the board for?
• Did you manage to do what you wanted? If so what helped you?
• If you failed, what was missing from the feature?

We will be engaging in this thread, but are also keen on interviewing customers (max 30 min) so if that is something you'd be interested in please let us know.

Hi Kasper,

that looks very interesting. We use whiteboards such as those from conceptboard to discuss and comment on variants and ideas. If you could add pictures to this tool for example, it would be very interesting. I will definitely have a look at it.

Nice to hear @rpicht! You can upload images as of today actually. The screenshot in the post shows both some unique widgets of analysis as well as an area plan uploaded from a JPG. Hope to hear about your experience! 🙂

is anyone else having an issues where the boards will not load snapshots correctly?

I have run analysis on a model I loaded in through the revit plugin.

I am able to see a live design view tile and eventually got the daylight potential snapshot to show up (scared to touch it in fear it will no longer display), but the sun hours snapshot just shows a grey box.

That is very unfortunate @javier_oropeza-TAG, our apologies for the inconvenience this is causing.

Unfortunately, there are some known issues with previews in the board. If you reach out through the in-app support chat, we might be able to help you out with the specific issues you are having here.

Hello, When we load up forma we cannot see the board option on the sidebar, it only shows the first two. How do I access the boards tab.

Hey @jadams42YJJF . Board was moved into a mode switcher approx a month ago as part of a more general change to our navigation. You can see the change here https://changes.autodeskforma.com/68041-navigate-between-site-design-board-and-compare-modes-with-th...

So, to find Board go to the upper left part of the screen and select Board from the dropdown. Hope this helps 🙂

Hi, I love the idea of the board.

Maybe I need to spend some more time to test around, but.. I havn't quite gotten the hang of the workflow from site design -> board, using snapshots?, multiple proposals or one proposal and locking what I want to share? (have of course looked at the youtube video at the startup of the board) 😉

Hi, like the idea of the board and live views of the proposal options. However, there seems to be a bug. Camera positions aren't updated when looking at several options and wanting to see a particular saved view point. Is there a fix on its way? Thanks

Boards are obviously a very good way to punch out a slide presentation straight from Forma, but I have a few questions about frames:

1. The default frame sizes seem fairly random - Almost none of these are sizes we'd tend to use. Standard paper sizes would be useful - A3, A1.

2. Also on frame size, the custom frame size option seems to let you make the frame any size you want, but without some way of understanding the dimension of the frame, it's hard to make multiple custom frames the size and ratio you want them to be.

3. Is there any way to make a custom frame template? We'd like to have one with out company logo in the bottom right corner.

We recently tested this too and were quite impressed! The only holdback I think is pdf drag and drop. We know you can upload and import pdf’s, but sometimes you want a quick pdf reference to simply drag in. If drag and drop from desktop to boards is implemented, I can definitely see us using this.
