Deprecation of Revit Cloud Models for versions 2021 and earlier - Confirmation required!

We recently received a notification that Autodesk will introduce a depreciation for Revit cloud projects inline with their supported Revit formats. Extract below, however I cannot find anything on Autodesk official websites. Can anyone confirm this?
Upgrading Your Cloud Models

To help teams prepare, Autodesk provides a built-in tool to streamline the upgrade process. The Revit Cloud Model Upgrade feature allows you to move your cloud models to any version of Revit that includes access to Revit Cloud Models—currently Revit 2022 or later (as of the Revit 2027 release).

This tool automates much of the work involved, making it easier for teams to stay current and maintain access to cloud collaboration features.

Key Timeline for This Change

This update will take effect 30 days after the Revit 2027 release.

After that date:

• You will no longer be able to create new Revit Cloud Models in Revit 2021 or older
• You will no longer be able to open existing Revit Cloud Models in those older versions

Looking Ahead: Future Releases

Each new Revit release will deprecate the oldest version that previously included cloud model access.

Example: When Revit 2028 becomes available, Revit 2022 will no longer support access to Revit Cloud Models.

Yes this is confirmed. Its literally a non-issue. Just go into your project and hit the cloud model upgrade button and upgrade to whatever version you want. All the work happens in the cloud and it will tell you when its done and give you a report on any errors. I suggest doing it friday night, as this process can take hours depening on project size. During the upgrade project no one can be working on the project.

It most certainly is not a non-issue.  I love the cloud upgrade feature and use it often.  But there can be long lists of items that cannot survive the upgrade that either get disconnected or deleted, and occasionally, there are models that cannot be upgraded without significant revisions.  One project, with six to ten models, may not be a big deal, but tens or hundreds of projects with hundreds of models is a problem.

Yes, I'm fully aware of that feature.... the issue is that over 300 models used for a metro tunnel project is contracted to use 2018 by the client who will not budge on "let's upgrade".

So the issue is to download all and have each stakeholder work within their own work shared environment with no more model collaboration. 

The lack of details is what surprises me the most. Such as, will the models be available to upgrade after the product release? i.e. Archived projects, future fit outs, etc.

I have not received any notice; it will definitely affect several projects. Is there an official announcement anywhere on Autodesk.com?

I understand from your query that you're looking for more information on Revit cloud deprecation once Revit 2027 is released. Please confirm that my interpretation of your query is accurate.

There is a planned policy to discontinue support for Revit Cloud Model functionality in older versions of Revit, specifically those older than the current release and the five preceding versions. Once this policy takes effect, Revit 2021 will no longer support cloud model features. The change is expected to be implemented following the release of Revit 2027.

While implementing this policy is not imminent, we highly recommend starting & migrating your projects to a supported Revit version (the newer the better). The upgrade process can take some time; some projects might require additional attention and work, so it is really important to have enough time for any unexpected situations.

Our practice heard about this from our Autodesk partner seller 3 days ago. I have prompted urgent support as our entire practice is using R2021. We have recently moved all projects to ACC & intended to upgrade over the next  few months but we had no knowledge of this imminent R2021 deprecation. We have reached out for urgent assistance to upgrade all projects. I feel for anyone who might be hearing about this for the first time.

I have had an official notification that changes the urgency of the original notice. This will not be implemented until Q3 2027.

Dear Craig,

Thank you for being a valued Autodesk customer – we appreciate the trust you’ve placed in us. As part of our commitment to transparency, we are writing to inform you that Autodesk is making changes to our portfolio that affect  Revit Cloud Models. These changes help simplify the portfolio and allow Autodesk to focus on evolving our Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Operations solutions to the Forma Industry Cloud.  

Starting around the end of FY27 Q3 / early FY27 Q4, Autodesk will be deprecating Revit Cloud Models access for Revit versions older than the current plus five back on an annual basis. After this change takes effect, you will not be able to create or open Revit Cloud Models in the deprecated versions. Local desktop capabilities will remain available. To prepare for this upcoming change, please upgrade your cloud models to Revit 2022 or newer using the  Revit Cloud Model Upgrade feature."

This is the exact issue that pushed me to build a small tool for the audit side of this.

The challenge I kept seeing was not the upgrade process itself. It was figuring out which ACC / BIM 360 projects actually had older Revit cloud models before deciding what needed testing, upgrading, archiving, or further review.

I built Model Version Batch Audit for that purpose.

It connects through Autodesk sign-in, scans selected ACC / BIM 360 projects, and returns a batch view of Revit model versions so BIM managers can identify which projects may need attention before the deprecation change becomes urgent.

A few important notes:

• It is read-only.

• It does not upgrade models.

• It does not modify ACC / BIM 360 project data.

• It does not replace Autodesk’s official upgrade or test-upgrade workflow.

• It is meant only to help with the visibility/audit step.
