Point Cloud Scanning to FlexSim Objects

Hello,

Has anyone had experience with Point Cloud 3D Laser Scanning to create Objects and buildings to import to FlexSim?

Does it need to be imported to SketchUp before importing the shape into the model?

It looks like an amazing tool but I'm not sure what’s the best way to use it.

I haven't had any experience with that, it sounds really amazing! But just as a heads up, this is the list of all the 3D file formats that FlexSim supports:

  • .wrl, .3ds, .dxf, .stl, .skp, .dae, .obj, .ac, .x, .ase, .ply, .ms3d, .cob, .md5mesh, .irr, .irrmesh, .ter, .lxo, .csm, .scn, .q3o, .q3s, .raw, .off, .mdl, .hmp, .scn, .xgl, .zgl, .lvo, .lvs, .blend, .stp, .igs

So if your file produced by the scan is not one of those formats, you'll likely need to convert it to one before you import it. Also, as it is a scanned file, you'll likely want to go into the 3D modelling software of your choice and "clean-up" the model (getting rid of duplicate vertices and abnormal or broken (open) polygon areas, etc)

FlexSim also supports .fbx and .dwg, which aren't in @Sam Stubbs' list.
