Object velocity as a Vector

Is there any way to return an object's velocity as a vector (vx,vy)?

Command getkinematics has got parameters to get components of a vector for velocity. You have to identify the kinematic node in the tree to be able to evaluate this information. BUT if the movement is a result of an animation, then this won’t work.
