HTML Control could not be initialized. Windows Error 126

[ FlexSim 16.2.2 ]

We have this error on opening an instance of the Express version of Flexsim (16.2.2). Dashboards on this machine do not display correctly either. I understand the reasons for this but not the solution.

There are a few posts on this community that hint at a solution, however I can't see a single, non-experimental, method to fix it.

Is there a recommended set of steps to fix this?

We updated to a newer version of Webkit in 16.1. It is using Windows dll functions that were added with Windows Update KB2999226 (the "Universal CRT" update). These dlls are not included with the regular CRTs that are installed by default with FlexSim.

Most computers should work fine (with or without Visual Studio), but for operating systems that haven't installed certain Windows Updates, you can get the updated dlls manually by installing the 2015 C++ Redistributable.

Besides manually downloading and installing the latest Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, you may also be able to get the proper updates by making sure that your computer system is fully up-to-date with all Windows Updates, or by installing the latest version of FlexSim. @phil.bobo, did these DLLs get added to the latest FlexSim installers?

Yes, the latest FlexSim installer tries to download and install the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 if you are missing the Universal CRT.
