FlexSim 2024 crashes when enabling VR after NVIDIA driver update (v591.74)

FlexSim Version: FlexSim 2024
Operating System: Windows 64-bit
GPU Driver: NVIDIA driver 591.74 (installed via the NVIDIA App)
VR Devices: Meta Quest 3S, Meta Rift

Description:
After updating the NVIDIA GPU driver to version 591.74, an issue occurs in FlexSim 2024 when VR mode is enabled.

When a VR headset (Meta Quest 3S or Meta Rift) is connected and VR mode is activated inside FlexSim, the application closes automatically without displaying any error message.

This issue did not occur before the NVIDIA driver update and appears to be related to the VR initialization process.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Install NVIDIA driver version 591.74 using the NVIDIA App

  2. Connect a VR headset (Meta Quest 3S or Meta Rift)

  3. Launch FlexSim 2024

  4. Open any simulation and enable VR mode

  5. FlexSim closes automatically

Expected Result:
FlexSim should successfully enter VR mode and continue running normally.

Actual Result:
FlexSim closes immediately after VR mode is enabled.

Tested Hardware:

Machine G5

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9750H @ 2.60 GHz

  • RAM: 32 GB

  • OS: Windows 64-bit

Machine G15

  • CPU: 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13650HX @ 2.60 GHz

  • RAM: 32 GB

  • OS: Windows 64-bit

The issue occurs consistently on both machines.

Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue?
Is this a known compatibility problem between FlexSim 2024, VR mode, and NVIDIA driver version 591.74?

Any guidance, recommended settings, or workaround (such as using a specific driver version or configuration changes) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi there,

I just wanted to express my strong support for this initiative and encourage a resolution on this topic.

Integrating VR into FlexSim is a major step forward for simulation projects, especially in terms of client engagement and communication. It makes complex systems much more immersive, intuitive, and impactful for stakeholders and customers.

I’m also very interested in learning more about how this FlexSim–VR integration works in practice, including software requirements, GPU/video card compatibility, and the overall technical setup.

Looking forward to hearing more updates on this.

Best regards,

I'm really interested in this point. Integrating VR into FlexSim would be a significant improvement, especially for communicating complex models to clients and stakeholders. It has strong potential to make simulations more engaging and easier to understand. Hope to have an answer soon!

What we still don’t know, what NVIDIA graphics card do you use? It is a good practice to test if a previous driver is a better choice.

VR Mode

Checking this box will cause the view to be rendered on a connected virtual reality headset. FlexSim works with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets. The view will also render and handle inputs from VR motion controllers (Oculus Touch or HTC Vive controllers) if this box is checked. If you are using an Oculus Rift, ensure that Unknown Sources is checked in your Oculus Settings.

Edit: VR support is probably better by game ready driver. And by now there is already a driver update available.
If it is related to errors caused by graphic cards then there is an article to check several steps to solve a problem.

@felixjsilva, @guilherme1sobral, VR has been a feature in FlexSim about nearly for 10 years. You find some threads about it in this forum and there are some example models to test features and abilities, too.

Thank you for your response. I am currently using NVIDIA App version 11.0.5.245. Regarding the drivers, I am currently using version 591.86 of both the Game Ready Driver and the Studio Driver. The issue occurs with both of them. I have also tried installing older driver versions to check whether the problem was driver related. However, the issue persists - FlexSim continues to close automatically as soon as I enable VR Mode. Please let me know if you recommend testing a specific driver version that is known to work better with FlexSim VR, or if there are any additional troubleshooting steps I should follow.

I attempted to replicate this issue on my Quest 1 with no luck - FlexSim VR still worked fine. Here's my specs:

Laptop: Dell Precision 5680
OS: Windows 11
Graphics Driver: Release 591.74 (version 32.0.15.9174)
     also tried 591.59 (32.0.15.9159) and 591.86 (32.0.15.9186)

Headset: Oculus Quest
System Version: 49845030443200410
Software Version: 50.0.0.198.257.455910822
Meta Horizon Link Version: 85.0.0.232.552

Attempted in FlexSim 2024, 2025, 2026.
Error did not occur and FlexSim worked correctly in VR mode.

I could not reproduce this issue on my Quest 3S  - FlexSim VR still worked fine. Here's my specs:

Laptop: Dell Precesion 5690
OS: Windows 11
Graphics Driver: Release 591.74 (version 32.0.15.9174)
     and 591.86 (32.0.15.9186)

Headset: MetaQuest 3S
System Version: 243418104000610
Meta Horizon Link Version: 85.0.0.239.552 (85.0.0.239.552).

Attempted in FlexSim 2024, 2025, 2026.
There is no crash while ruining simulation in VR mode.

If I check your data to identify an possible installed graphic card I end up with mobile versions of 4050, 4060 or 3050 ti. If you reduce video resolution settings to low or medium quality, then a VR output should be possible. You let render two displays simultaneously for a VR output.
@suraj_uttamrao_desai, a dell precision 5690 with an Ada series of 4000 or 5000 is a total different league in comparison to an RTX 4050. Those machines are top mid range mobile workstations.
