Exporting Animation from FlexSim

I would like to export animation from FlexSim for use in external 3D rendering software (for example, Twinmotion).

On the forum, I found instructions for a workaround on how to export USD animation from FlexSim:

So I installed the following Omniverse Kit setup:

  • USD Composer 2023.2.5 / Kit App 109
  • Nucleus 2023.2.3

This also installed a local Nucleus server on my Windows PC.

I followed the instructions from this guide:

Meanwhile, I found out that since October 1st, 2025, this installation method has been deprecated by NVIDIA.

Because of this, I switched to the new Omniverse Kit SDK solution from GitHub:

https://github.com/NVIDIA-Omniverse/kit-app-template

I successfully built and launched the new USD Composer. The Nucleus server was still running on Nucleus 2023.2.3.

At one point I managed to connect FlexSim to USD Composer, but the animation did not transfer correctly. Since then, I have not even been able to establish a live connection anymore. I seem to have a similar issue to this forum topic:

I have read that the only reliable way to run a local Nucleus server now may be to install Nucleus on Ubuntu using Docker.

Has anybody had success with this setup?
If yes, could you provide a tutorial or some guidance on how to set it up?

Another concern is that some users say this method only works well for small models, not for complete production lines. Has there been any progress regarding performance with larger models?

Question to the FlexSim developers:

Do you have any plans — or even a rough timeline — for implementing direct export of FlexSim animation to USD format? Or maybe FBX export?

Even when the live connection worked partially, there were still issues with larger models, as discussed here:

Has this issue been improved or solved in recent versions?
