Graphics card for mac

So I'm looking to make the switch from PC to MAC in order to take advantage of the Flame Training edition.  I see the minimum requirements for a graphics card is

  • Graphics card with 4Gb of  Vram or more

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the training edition using only an imac

  • AMD Radeon M290X GPU (2GB GDDR5)

I'll likely only be using 1920x1080 footage, so I'm wondering if I really need to dish out the extra $$ in order to get the 4gb minimum recommended.

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

Is it for training purpose only or are you planning to achieve real production work on your Mac system as well?

Thanks for your quick response. I'm likely only to use it for training
purposes. I'm guessing I'll be importing and using HD 1920x1080 files. No
need to train with 4k. I freelance at several houses and want to stay up
to date on what's new. What do you think?

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

Considering that we never certified Flame with hardware below the hardware requirements, we cannot confirm how Flame is going to act with this specific graphic board.

Maybe some users can share their own experiences with hardware not meeting the hardware requirements here.

However, we can confirm that nothing "code wise" will prevent the application to launch with that specific graphic board model.

At first glance, the graphic board might suffice for training purposes with HD resolution media but again, this is not something we can guarantee.

Please let us know if you have any other questions,

Regards,

Yann

Thanks for that.  I ended up getting the maxed out imac.  Never know what the future holds.

Best
