Question about archive setup

Hi,

I'm still getting used to Flame workflow and all projects are waiting to be archived so it is now good time to look into it.

Anyway I read help and watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc6RIAo5vs0, but when I try to archive my project with Cache media on Archive turned OFF and Exclude Renders and Cache, before archive popup window says:

"This archive requires 6.99 MB", but when I hit continue it will start garthering GBs. I'm wondering why it is getting more than ti says?

It should archive batch work files like what I have in Batch node section, right?

I'm using latest Flare on latest macOS Mac Pro 2013.

Thank you!

Hi juhatak,

Are you using 2019.2.x version? If yes, you might be hitting a known bug where the content of Desktop / Batch Render reels (not located in Library) does not include in the Archive Space estimation.

When you archive with these options:

Cache media on Archive turned OFF and Exclude Renders and Cache

This should still include the renders in Batch render reels which possibly why you are getting more than what it is estimated.

Please watch out for further release announcement for the fix.

Hope this info helps.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi,

Yes I am using 2019.2.1 version, but I couldn't find any guide from release announcement for the fix (https://help.autodesk.com/view/FLAME/2019/ENU/?guid=GUID-8122A048-3AC1-4FF6-BC15-487CED277AF1).

Am I looking from wrong place? Thanks.

Hi juhatak,

This issue was only reported recently (after the 2019.2.1 was released) so it is not included in the release note yet. And also, the fix is not included in any current release versions. Please watch out for future release announcement. For your reference, here's the bug ID and description:

SMOK-50855 Project archive space estimation does not take into account content on Desktop not located in Library!

Jeff

So is it safe to upgrade 2020 without archiving my 2019.2.1 projects? I already got download link for 2020 version this morning.

Yes you may upgrade your Flame to the latest version available. New installs should retain all the existing Flame data and projects in the system. But as a precaution, it is still recommended to archive your projects before doing any upgrade.

I have upgraded to version 2020, but still getting archive oddness I used to have with older version so basically getting many GBs even estimate is only few MBs. I thought it would be solved...?

Hi juhatak,

Are you referring to the bug I mentioned in my previous comment? SMOK-50855?  If yes, this is yet to be resolved. Please watchout for further release announcement.
