Z level increment will not work in Z level finish milling

I have (2) surfaces to mill on a part with multiple surfaces, similar to a diamond's facets, I just want to mill (2), I want it to leave all the others alone.

Since Rough Z Level will execute Z level increment values BUT also tries to mill every surface in sight, even with all the other surfaces Checked.

I picked a Z Level Finish, with it's increment value, it simulates perfect except it takes the whole Z depth in one pass, ignoring the Z increment value.

How do I force the Finish Z Level to execute Z increment steps?      OR   How can I force the Rough Z Level to just mill my (2) chosen surfaces AND ignore all the "checked" surfaces?

Hi @ncpapaul,

Wish you a harpy new year!

With Z level rough, select all the surfaces as part surfaces and select boundary curve which should cover the surfaces need to be machined as shown in the attached image 'boundary_curve.png' . With Z level finish, you can set Z increment in its finishing attributes as shown in the  attached image 'Z_increment.png'.

If my post answers the query, please click on 'accpet as solution' button. If not please send a fm file to investigate in detail.

Thank You.

Z level finish will not accept Z increments.  The option it there, the values can be changed but it will not execute increments.  Z level finish does the whole thing in one pass, period.

Also frustrating is the fact that "check surfaces" used to prevent any machining on the picked check surfaces...............now they will be seen by the software and goofy attempts to mill the surfaces no matter what.

No one from Autodesk has yet to explain why "check surfaces" quit working when it used to work under DelCam.

dakinK9J4W,

Did you place a Check Allowance amount in the Milling attributes?

I was able to give a Z increment in my a level finish, try changing to a different cutter, or check your cutter properties.

Without a look at your .FM file there is a lot of speculation going on here?
