Trying to import clip art files to create tool paths

Has anyone had success with importing Clip art or other image files into Featurecam to create toolpaths? If so please share your experience. I am currently trying to perform this for an engraving job.

Thanks!

Hello,

The problem you will have is that FeatureCAM will not be able to do anything with the graphics file directly. What you must do is somehow convert the graphic to geometry that can then be imported into FC, chained, and machined. You might also have to simplify and/or clean up the artwork.  There is "raster to vector" software out there that will give you this intermediate step. One I have traditionally recommended is WinTopo. (wintopo.com) I think there is a free version - hopefully it will do what you need.

Good luck!

Hi @Anonymous

Another software that does this is called Inkscape.  I just just is yesterday for a customer that wants to etch their company logo.

We took a .jpg and created a dxf file which FeatureCAM can import natively or through Exchange.

Hi Chris and Chris! Thank you both for the info. I ended up having to convert the images to a DXF file and was able to import those into featurecam. I appreciate your help in the manner!

Best!

Hi @Anonymous

Do you mind adding a solution to this thread?  That way others searching for the same information know this worked for you.
