Parts import very small

I've had this issue three times now, twice with a .dxf from AutoCad, and now with a solidworks file.
When I try to import using the "import using exchange", Featurecam thinks the parts are tiny.
I figured it out in Autocad, but solidworks has me stumped. The units in SW are set to inches, and Feature cam is also set to inches. but when I import my part, which should be 8.250"x1.200"x.180", it shows up as .3196"x.0474"x.0071.

I've used Featurecam for about 4 years now, and this is new to me.

I've attached the log file generated by Featurecam to see if that will help.

Hi,

Can you share the part?

Thank you,

Jacob

Sure thing.
In messing around with it this morning, I figured out that it is somehow still scaled for MM, even though it measures as inches in Solidworks.

Can you share your configuration files, these are located on.

C:\ProgramData\FeatureCAM

You should share.

EZFM_mfg.ini

ezfm_ui.ini

ezfm_ui.XML

Thank you,

Jacob

Hi,

There are something strange here, I copied your setting files in my library and imported the part as expected.

I thing you should try to take a backup of the the files there are located in the C:\ProgramData\FeatureCAM.

1. Close all featureCAM app.

2. Create a new folder put all the files in there

3. Then restart FC as admin, and try import the part and see the result.

Thank you,

Jacob

That seems to have fixed it, thank you sir.

Is there any reason I should keep the copy of those files?

Hi,

Great to hear.

No, delete the backup-folder, so the files don't trick you again:-)

Have a nice day.

Thank you,

Jacob

So this has started again, with files I drew myself, not just customer supplied files. Is there possibly a setting somewhere that is incorrect that's causing it to do this? I did figure out it's scaling the parts as if they're drawn in MM, even though they aren't.
FeatureCAM is set to import in inches.

Hi,

I dont know where there should be a settings for this.

Could you try to save the files as *.*xt format, then import this and see what happen.

Thank you,

Jacob

I have tried saving as .x_t, it gives the same results.

We have an older copy of FeatureCAM installed on another machine, and it imports the parts fine, whether in .x_t or .sldprt format.

Hi,

It sounds very strangs.

Then try take a copy of your files in the folder C:\ProgramData\FeatureCAM on your machine with V2018. copy the files from the old version/laptop to the laptop with V2018 on, and then import as new, and see what happens.

Thank you,

Jacob

I tried this, with no change. This is becoming quite frustrating. I tried a reinstall of the software, with no change either. I'll attach a copy of the latest log file, maybe there is something in there?

Also, the only way I can get any file other than a .fm file into FeatureCam is to use the Import using exchange function. "Import" nor "Open" will work, they just give me a blank file.

Hi,

Can you share this part, so I can compare the log files with import.

Thank you,

Hello @jblack,

Is this happening with native import or import using Exchange? I can import supplied sldprt using file>import correctly in Inch.

Thank You.

Sure. I'll attach one of the parts, plus a simple block I made as a test. The block should be a 3.75" cube.

@abhishek.juvekar, I've been relegated to using "file>import using exchange" for months now, because "file>import" no longer works. It only gives me a blank page.
