FC not rendering gouges from solid model holders

Anyone seen this before or know what might be the problem? FC knows this is gouging, it will pause if I have that option selected, but it does not render the gouge on the part like usual during 3D or machine simulation.

Pretty sure this used to work as expected, but am questioning myself now...

I can turn off all preceding features and completely bury the holder in the stock but it will only render the tool gouging, not the holder.

FC2021, holders are defined using imported step files from the manufacturer. All dimensions look right in the holder definition.

Doesn't seem to be limited to any specific part, feature, post, tool, holder etc.

The part I was working on when I noticed it:

Test part, showing buried holder:

Same part, completed simulation:

Hi

That's very strange ..... Does this happen with other projects or just that one?

If it is only that one ..... Try copy and pasting the features into another project and see if the same thing occurs .

Otherwise if you are able to attach the project ...I can test here and see if the same thing happens.

regards

Well that's not good...

Agreed with @lee.hillman . Can you attach your file? Bonus point if you have both the FM that was used to create the custom holder as well as the file shown in simulation here.

Taken a while to get back to this, apologies for that.

I've attached an simple example similar to what I used for the screenshots previously, and also the fm file used to define the holder.

I've confirmed that this appears to be independent of the post etc. (behaves the same regardless of the setup type or post selected.)

Also does not appear to be connected to any one tool holder model - ALL my holders defined by solid models behave like this. Parametric defined holders render gouges normally. I haven't checked with curve defined holders.

I had this happen once also, restarted Fcam and it hasn't happened since. Can't reproduce it.

Interesting.

For me it is 100% consistent, there are no steps required to reproduce it, it just is. It's like that right from start up, doesn't go away with a restart. Default .ini didn't help.

I'm wondering if it's a GPU/driver problem. I have a QuadroP2000 with driver version 442.92

After a bit of messing around with the sample session ...I managed to repeat this behaviour once and only the once ....really strange.

After that though .... all sorts of strange behaviour .... both tool and holder disappeared completely ...Yet the gouge still appeared during simulation. Rapidcut was selected even though 3D sim was showing as selected  ...Stuff like that!

I've now reset my ezfm_ui.ini and all is good again.

So I'm attaching my ezfm_ui.ini file here for you to try on you pc ..... Does this cure the issue for you?

Close all FeatureCAM sessions

Unzip it and place it here ... C:\ProgramData\FeatureCAM

restart FeatureCAM

Hope it helps

Hello,

I was looking around as I have the exact same problem with solid tool holders simulation, so let me up the topic in hope someone can come up with a solution.

@lee.hillman I tried to simulate after replacing the ezfm_ui file but that didn't change the behaviour.

Hi OMFranchi,

What version of featureCAM are you using ? ... That Ezfm.ini file may not be compatible

Rather than using the ezfm file that was attached .... Lets try regenerating a brand new one on your pc.

Close FeatureCAM completely,

Browse back to C:\ProgramData\FeatureCAM.

Delete or rename the ezfm_ui.ini..... Note : This will reset FeatureCAM back to factory defaults

There is another file sometimes, ezfm_mfg.ini (renaming or deleting is optional).. This contains manufacturing info for the machining configurations etc

Restart FeatureCAM .... A brand new ezfm_ui.ini file will be created during start up.

Does it still happen now?

Unfortunately I never found a solution to this, still stuck with it. Neither using Lee's .ini or generating a completely new one made any difference.

Another possibility might be to try checking or unchecking the Use Graphics hardware option.

You'll need to restart the session but hopefully that'll help

@lee.hillman I'm on Standard 2021.0.3.0023. I tried enabling graphics hardware and resetting ezfm_ui but those didn't work either unfortunately, just as @gregorANU4T case.

I mean gouge window still pops up when the sim detects collision, so it's not the end of the world but...
