I created a custom reverse chamfer tool today as well as a double angle cutter. The reverse angle cutter is not showing up in the list to choose from for doing the bottom chamfer on  the part. The double angle cutter is there and if I look in the tool manager they are both there. What do I do

Hi @Anonymous,

You can't use form tools in all strategies.

Sorry probably wasn't clear on what is going on. when I go in to pick a tool it isn't in the list to pick from even though it shows up when I go into the tool manager from the pick list. It is also there if I go directly to the tool manager. The only place it isn't showing up is in the tool list for the part I want to use it on.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you share something?

Okay here is a part I can share that will also be using this tool. I am sending some screen shots as well as the file.

Okay not sure why but remade the tool a 3rd time this time I just put it in with the flat end mills and it worked great. figure that one out. For me it would be easier to just have one set of tools that could be accessed for any operation. Sometimes we machinists have to use tools in an unconventional way which may mean using a tool that is in a group you can't get to for that operation.

It's been an issue forever (15+years) and I don't understand why it is not possible to override which tool gets used for an operation. Why can't we use a chamfer tool for engraving or a spot drill for chamfering? If I want to use a tap for face milling that's my problem but also my choice if it suits me! Not very USER friendly.

The same problem for creating custom tools: If a tool is created in the endmill category then it won't show up as a groove/side mill tool or a chamfer tool even if it could be used as such Emoticono triste

I'm glad someone agrees with me. In fact here's a little trick I learned from an old timer many years ago when I was just a kid. You mention machining with a tap, well this guy did just that. He would cut worm gears using one. You run the tap at minimum RPM with your gear blank on a free turning shank bring it up to the tap and let it cut slow and easy as long as your diameter is right it will come out every time.
