What I am having trouble with is the 45 degree profile on the top surface of the part. I can generate the pocket in the space but am having trouble with the 45 degree on the one side. I can get it through surface feature recognition, but I want to be able to eliminate all the features besides that when it creates it.

Wayne,

You should use a surface mill feature like "z level".  Just select those 45 degree surfaces and change the stock properties to Use part surface dimensions.
