I am downloading many free 3D models to be imported into a Maya scene. The issue is that pretty much all the models that I download do not include textures or if they include the texture files I don't know where I am supposed to - A place the texture files and B assign the textures to the model. I am downloading as FBX because I thought fbx files are supposed to include the textures in the singular .fbx file? Although I think the models may have been created in a different program to Maya. I really need free 3D models that have textures applied and are easily imported into Maya so I don't know what to do and would really appreciate some help. I have linked one of the many 3D models that I would like to import below.
If the FBX file contains textures, when you import it into Maya, a folder called "yourfile.fbm" should be created in the same location as the FBX file (it may be worth to be sure that you have write permissions on the folder where you have the FBX file so the .fbm folder can be created). This folder will contain the texture files that are embedded in the FBX file. Normally, if the texture files are present, Maya should automatically point to them.
If you don't have the .fbm folder populated with the textures, there is a good chance that the FBX file did not embedded them so it reference an external location that Maya expects to find (which may not always be the case!)
