It would be a great addition if it were possible to pan with a mouse scroll button like in Autocad, Inventor, Navisworks, etc ... Because it is a bit annoying to have to be selecting the pan command every time you need to move the camera and it is also simpler for new users who already use some CAD software.
I just read about the chain builder in the Factory Warehouse. It would be pretty nice if we could use this tool directly in the FDS.
Things we need :
- Draw the polyline also in Inventor (we don't want to leave Inventor :D)
- Make an Chain Asset out of our own assets and define the length and so on with our own parameters (also our own native language)
- Define which asset is the straight, turn, Y-Piece, and maybe 30°/45° lines from a straight line
- Define the connectors which should be used
Good afternoon! I would love an option to add a drawing file (IDW or DWG) to a published asset. Ideally, I would like to create an asset (even an assembly asset) and be able to place views in a drawing, dimension and even add a Parts List. When ready to publish the asset, I would like to add the drawing file as well as an NWC file, and the drawing file would automatically update, as the asset is modified inside an assembly. Now when I create a layout, instead of having an entire BOM of all the parts, I could open up the drawing of a specific assembly asset and see its BOM and detailed drawing. This would help with more assembly operations where users have to see how the assets are constructed (or send instructions to the final installer). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hope all is well and have a most blessed night!
yesterday I created a project drawing, where I used the connector points.
With the connector points I also used the created connector class.
Most time this is great, but yesterday it was not so usefull, because I need a different parameter like the connector classe told the asset.
I created two assets, a machine and an equipment, that belongs to the machine.
In the connector class, I told the equipment, to ask, which machine typ is connected to it. According to the machine typ, the equipment change his size.
So far, so good
But yesterday, I need a smaller size of the equipment and to make that possible, I had to delete the constrains that are created by using the connector points.
Now my Idea.
It would be great, to have an option, which turns the connector class on or of in an asset.
Currently it is not possible to update the assets through the Inventor API.
At least I could not if someone knew how to accept the answer with pleasure!
I would like to create an update command for the Assets through the API, currently the assets can be modified through parameters and it is totally possible to handle assets through the API.
However when values are exempted the asset on the screen is updated but its assets are not.
I believe it's simple to create this "update asset".
Hello again, ;)
It would be nice, to get the User Parameters also as Export Parameters, to use them in a part list.
Often we have information in that parameters, that we need also in a part list.
When working on a Factory Layout it is to bad that the parameters can be changed trough the 'Factory Properties' only. You can't change the names of parameters, you can't change the order in which they appear, and the parameter names must have under scores. The nice Forms which can be made are not available in the Factory Layout.
My idea is to combine the functionality of the 'Factory Properties' and the Forms, and erase either one of them afterwards. This way Autodesk can reach a great improvement of both the user interface, intuitivity en simpleness of the program. It would anyhow bring the design and the use of assets closer to eachother, in my opinion.
Feel free to ask or share toughts.

It would be nice, to export the part list, with all done Factory Properties (parameters) to an xml file.
The reason is, that we want to reread the parts list in our Camos (ERP System), to create automaticly an quotation with all nessassary informations.
Two of best customers (Many seats) have Problems whith assets whith many Parameters
In Ilogic Formular we can change the order of Properties/Parameters and create Kategories.
In Factory we can only create Kategories for Propertys not for FX_Parameters and the Order ist Alphabetical.
Please Change the optics from Factory Property window and create an Editor like in Inventor Ilogic Formular
Together with petestrycharske and olegd.prod we discussed about the usability of Asset Parameter. Also i will try to combine ideas i found in the Idea Station.
1. Parameter Visibility - we would like to be able to determine which Parameter is shown depending on other Parameter.
Example: Motor = Yes, Motortype is Shown Else Motor = No ,Motortype isnt shown.
2. Parameter category and organization - we need to be able to create categories in the Parameter window.
Example: Base, Motor, Support...
Also we need the possibility to organize the Parameter logically and not alphabetical.
My example from the thread:
"Imagin buying a car or even better a electronic device where your knowledge isn't really the best. And the configurator on the website shows you a huge list of things you can add and parameters to change, and the half of them is without any use on your special case and additionally the parameters are in an order which doesn't make any sense because its alphabetical. I think enrage is the word we need there."
3. Copy Parameter from one Asset to the other - this Feature would save a lot of time.
I explained it here:
4. Using comments for Explanation - often technical Parameters arent the real names so it would be helful to deposit the Information anywere so when you hover over the Parameter in the asset an Pop up window appears with the Explanation in it.
5. Passing NonKey Parameter throught connector Points would also be very helpful. Because not every Information, maybe some Information for calculating something, is important to Show to the user.
petestrycharske mentioned this in his Idea.
If i have missed anything do not hesitate to add ideas with a comment!
To save time with complex assets it would be nice if we had the option to create the assets variants directly while uploading the asset to the library.
Also it would be good if the asset placement begins after you choose the variant from the list directly.
My specific desire is for Descriptor or Extended Descriptor to read the Asset Properties (not iProperties), manipulate the string, then display as the Descriptor iLogic or Extended Descriptor iLogic.
Of course there would be many other uses for Factory API.
Would like the ability to deplay the DWG overlay in the Inventor drawing.
Also would like to able to create dimensions relative to the dwg overlay.
I believe this is a key feature missing from the factory design suite. This would allow me to present one drawing file that contains all the 2D and 3D representations.
Maintaining lightweight assets in your library is key to FDU performance. I would like FDS to run an audit on the asset before publishing.
The checks could be configured based on the company needs. I'm sure other checks would be useful.
if you have a very modular system in the FDS the connector Points are getting a mess for the Performance and handling in big layouts.
If you have a conveyor with up to 10 supports in unregular distances you Need to create 10 connector Points.
- It would be great to give connector Points the possibility to be used multiple times.
If we place a sideguard also all the connector Points for walls, supports, and so on Display but we dont Need them at this Moment
- It would be great to have a Setting like: Connector Point Support:1 only Shows up if you place an asset with an Support:1 in it or anything simular.
Process Analysis is easy to start and operate even as a newbee, but also very limited if it should work in a logistic or manufactoring industry!
I will apreciate if:
I think it would e a good idea to include a version of Revit in FDS. how else would you conbine a Revit 3D model with a system model to enable to creation of contextual sections i.e. sections that include the building and the system. Inventor can import Revit but not the scale of projects that we work with.
