Would like the ability to deplay the DWG overlay in the Inventor drawing.
Also would like to able to create dimensions relative to the dwg overlay.
I believe this is a key feature missing from the factory design suite. This would allow me to present one drawing file that contains all the 2D and 3D representations.
By selecting a connector in the browser while in the Asset Builder, the color gets selectable. However, it doesn't stick to it if the asset is published or the AB is closed.
I see huge value in different colored connectors to ease up the progress of making layouts. Many different people are making layouts in my company, but usually none of them are making the assets.
Then an extra step might be taken and we can only connect blue+blue, green+green, yellow+yellow etc.
When Creating Assets, often I have to repeatedly republish the asset. It would be nice to have a Republish workflow that could do the following with one button:
- publish to same folder
- publish with the same asset name (to overwrite)
- Set 2D View Options.
Also, if the asset has already been published, these setting should be remembered.
Here's My Idea:-
Why not have Inventor "variable" partameters exposed on to the 2D asset as a dynamic parameter within AutoCAD. example of which could be a conveyor with a length parameter, could this not be displayed just like a dynamic block when in the autocad environment??
Hi, I'd like to display the name of the connectors of the assets during command Connector, and in the window Link connector when I manege the connector Link.
This feature is very useful when you have multiple connectors in the same position but with different orientations.
The name of the connectors should be visible in the graphics area with interactive selection and in the browser inside the components.
Currently, only assets will snap to a 2D drawing overlay in a factory layout. We need the ability to snap to that overlay during other functions as well such as sketching or just taking measurments. This is VERY frustrating not having this ability.
Process Analysis is easy to start and operate even as a newbee, but also very limited if it should work in a logistic or manufactoring industry!
I will apreciate if:
When working on a Factory Layout it is to bad that the parameters can be changed trough the 'Factory Properties' only. You can't change the names of parameters, you can't change the order in which they appear, and the parameter names must have under scores. The nice Forms which can be made are not available in the Factory Layout.
My idea is to combine the functionality of the 'Factory Properties' and the Forms, and erase either one of them afterwards. This way Autodesk can reach a great improvement of both the user interface, intuitivity en simpleness of the program. It would anyhow bring the design and the use of assets closer to eachother, in my opinion.
Feel free to ask or share toughts.

Two of best customers (Many seats) have Problems whith assets whith many Parameters
In Ilogic Formular we can change the order of Properties/Parameters and create Kategories.
In Factory we can only create Kategories for Propertys not for FX_Parameters and the Order ist Alphabetical.
Please Change the optics from Factory Property window and create an Editor like in Inventor Ilogic Formular
When checking in a layout that contains Factory Assets, those assets are automatically placed in a folder called 'Factory Assets' located at the root of the workingspace. The option to change this location, ideally into a library folder, would be great. We don't want the layout engineers to readily know where this folder is located.
Also have a Vault property located with the factory asset file, much like how Content Center files have the "IsCCfile" associated.
This way we can easily assign the asset to a workflow that has a 'locked' state as default.
I think it would e a good idea to include a version of Revit in FDS. how else would you conbine a Revit 3D model with a system model to enable to creation of contextual sections i.e. sections that include the building and the system. Inventor can import Revit but not the scale of projects that we work with.
A customer at the 2011 Munich Summit suggested that depending on the industry, the floor will not be straight. Often customers have to plan in multi floor buildings. Today FDS has only one floor per assembly.
Please please please please fix the Plugin so it doesn't overwrite my keyboard customizations all the time.
The default setup is ridiculous. I want to draw a Circle in a sketch. In plain Inventor I press C and I'm ready to go. In FDS Inventor I have to Press C + Enter...
It's the same with T for text and C for constrain and on and on and on... oh and F for fillet. Why are Facebook and Twitter even options in there?
I understand why you may want to set them initially, but in no way should a plugin EVER override the settings a user has implemented with in the UI.
This has driven me nuts for 3 years now... my only regret is it's taken this long to post it on the Ideastation.... I have however brought it up for the last 3 years during the beta and this sillyness is still in the product... I mean come on, Facebook and Twitter shortcuts from within a Sketch? I would have loved to have been in the room when that idea was suggested. Bonkers.
My sarcasm is justified when you consider how much of a pain this is on a daily basis. Please fix this ASAP.
If one uses Factory Assets and Connectors to configure a new piece of equipment on a Factory Layout, it would be handy to publish this new equipment configuration as its own Factory Asset, from the Factory Layout environment. This is similar to the idea of "Creating Assets using Assets". Hope all is well and have a blessed day!
When publishing FDS Assets, the dwg blocks created are set to allow explode in AutoCAD. Why not set them to NO so that the bi-directional work flow is not broken so easily by poor Acad practice. An experienced user can reset this function if needed in the block editor.
I would like the ability to label a parameter as key, but hide it from the view of the users. That way it could be passed along via Connectors, but not accidentally edited by users. For example, there may be some parameters that I set in the starter asset that gets passed along to each of the following assets. These could either be explicit choices or values that are driven by a formula. Regardless, I want that value to be passed along and consistent.
Unfortunately for a connector class file to be applied, it requires that passable parameters are set as Key, which will then display them in the Factory Properties dialog box in the layout. This is what I would like to be avoided for some of the asset parameters, because the users may end up changing them...
Hopefully, this is clear, but if anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!
There are many customers who do not use the Fds with Autocad. They do not use the Synchronisation between Autocad and Inventor. They only use Inventor for placing Assets to create their Layout and they use the Inventor Drawing for detailing the Factory Layout because it is easy to create side views and intersection views. Therefore it is not possible to use the asset labelling in the Inventor drawing. It would be a nice feature for them, if the object labelling of the assets, which can be done on the Autocad Layout, could be shown in the Inventor drawing.
It would be good to be able to record the simulation and export a section as a movie file that you could embed in a power point. We could have done with it the other day when we wanted to graphically show a standard batch process as part of a sales power point. We can't seem to share the simulation to other users in 360 either.
Many times I'll break a layout up into sub-layouts. I'd like the ability to apply some sort of tag to objects that reside in a sub layout from the top level or an upper level layout. A good example would be adding operation tags - (ie OP 010, 020)
Currently asset tags attach to assets ONLY. With some of my customers equipment may never become an asset (one off, not re-used elsewhere) and they still need to be tagged. Perhaps these would have to be a different kind of tag - other than asset tag.
I am quite surprised that there is not a way to set up the factory assets to publish to a vault folder so that way the assets could be managed in vault.
What would be ideal would be if FDS could publish the assets to the library folder within Vault so assets could be shared across multiple users but be able to be republished and updated when the Library Manager updates or adds an asset. Then the end users could just "Get" the library folder after each update and their library would be up to date.
