In our assets we use our model variables they are a short form of the real names of our Parameters. We need them for the BOM we export directly from the FDS. So we aren't able to use the full name of our Parameters in the assets.
For our sales team or teams who don't use these variables every day its kind of hard to find the right parameters.
So it would be pretty helpful to use the Comment Function in the Parameter Window to add the real name.
In the FDS they could be visible like in Auto CAD. When you hover over the Parameter Name with the mouse cursor a small popup shows which contains:
Long Name or Maybe a short description
Small thing but very useful!
In addition to this it would be nice to have the ability to deliver well sorted Parameter Lists to our users.

And new functions:
Hi, I'd like to display the name of the connectors of the assets during command Connector, and in the window Link connector when I manege the connector Link.
This feature is very useful when you have multiple connectors in the same position but with different orientations.
The name of the connectors should be visible in the graphics area with interactive selection and in the browser inside the components.
It would be nice if we could measure from the 2D Overlay to 3D Faces or generally measure in the 2D overlay in Inventor. So actually you need to use Inventor and AutoCAD at the same time side by side.
Would be perfect together with this idea:
Because the important dimensions refer to customer's items, like walls, columns or somthing like that !
Hello Autodesk people!
I have a few ideas/requests regarding the Floor Settings in Inventor Factory Design.
By selecting a connector in the browser while in the Asset Builder, the color gets selectable. However, it doesn't stick to it if the asset is published or the AB is closed.
I see huge value in different colored connectors to ease up the progress of making layouts. Many different people are making layouts in my company, but usually none of them are making the assets.
Then an extra step might be taken and we can only connect blue+blue, green+green, yellow+yellow etc.
in many cases it would be helful to have the opportunity to mark a Part/Assets as a reference but keep it normal in the drawing. Therefore it would be great to have another Version of "Reference"!
- Not in the BOM
- Normal in Drawing (also the coloured view)
I would like the ability to label a parameter as key, but hide it from the view of the users. That way it could be passed along via Connectors, but not accidentally edited by users. For example, there may be some parameters that I set in the starter asset that gets passed along to each of the following assets. These could either be explicit choices or values that are driven by a formula. Regardless, I want that value to be passed along and consistent.
Unfortunately for a connector class file to be applied, it requires that passable parameters are set as Key, which will then display them in the Factory Properties dialog box in the layout. This is what I would like to be avoided for some of the asset parameters, because the users may end up changing them...
Hopefully, this is clear, but if anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!
Here's My Idea:-
Why not have Inventor "variable" partameters exposed on to the 2D asset as a dynamic parameter within AutoCAD. example of which could be a conveyor with a length parameter, could this not be displayed just like a dynamic block when in the autocad environment??
When checking in a layout that contains Factory Assets, those assets are automatically placed in a folder called 'Factory Assets' located at the root of the workingspace. The option to change this location, ideally into a library folder, would be great. We don't want the layout engineers to readily know where this folder is located.
Also have a Vault property located with the factory asset file, much like how Content Center files have the "IsCCfile" associated.
This way we can easily assign the asset to a workflow that has a 'locked' state as default.
I am quite surprised that there is not a way to set up the factory assets to publish to a vault folder so that way the assets could be managed in vault.
What would be ideal would be if FDS could publish the assets to the library folder within Vault so assets could be shared across multiple users but be able to be republished and updated when the Library Manager updates or adds an asset. Then the end users could just "Get" the library folder after each update and their library would be up to date.
When we add ” BIM exchange “ connectors for Pipe flow , electrical connectors etc, to an asset, when that asset is consumed into an IAM, the connector detail is lost.
The enhancement is for the Assy to retain the BIM exchange info for each asset within the Assy IAM….
Please contact email@example.com for more details.
When Creating Assets, often I have to repeatedly republish the asset. It would be nice to have a Republish workflow that could do the following with one button:
- publish to same folder
- publish with the same asset name (to overwrite)
- Set 2D View Options.
Also, if the asset has already been published, these setting should be remembered.
I recognize this is not a high priority, but I like to keep my templates folder simple/clean. I am trying to minimize questions from user like “Which template do I use?”
This is hard coded into FDS so you must have that file in your templates folder. If you do not then this error appears when publishing an asset.
"An error was encountered while attempting to generate the 2D asset DWG.
- Failed to get the default DWG template. The Publish operation is being terminated."
Provide a setting in "Factory Options" to define the English and Metric template for 2D Asset/Block Publishing.
Please please please please fix the Plugin so it doesn't overwrite my keyboard customizations all the time.
The default setup is ridiculous. I want to draw a Circle in a sketch. In plain Inventor I press C and I'm ready to go. In FDS Inventor I have to Press C + Enter...
It's the same with T for text and C for constrain and on and on and on... oh and F for fillet. Why are Facebook and Twitter even options in there?
I understand why you may want to set them initially, but in no way should a plugin EVER override the settings a user has implemented with in the UI.
This has driven me nuts for 3 years now... my only regret is it's taken this long to post it on the Ideastation.... I have however brought it up for the last 3 years during the beta and this sillyness is still in the product... I mean come on, Facebook and Twitter shortcuts from within a Sketch? I would have loved to have been in the room when that idea was suggested. Bonkers.
My sarcasm is justified when you consider how much of a pain this is on a daily basis. Please fix this ASAP.
my whish is, that when we offer an asset to the libary, that we get all views from it. Front, Side Left, Side right, Rear and Top.
The reason is, that we have to build 2D Assets for the AutoCAD libary too.
And if the views will be automiticly build, it would be very helpfull.
Otherwise, could you build something, with that it would be possible, to use the 3D Libary in Mechanical, in all 2D views.
Architecture Top View is not helpfull, if you are not working totaly on the ground floor. All Machines are hanging in the air and in the sideview of the building they are only a line.
So it would be a great thing, that something will work in future like that. :)
Currently, only assets will snap to a 2D drawing overlay in a factory layout. We need the ability to snap to that overlay during other functions as well such as sketching or just taking measurments. This is VERY frustrating not having this ability.
I have an asset that can either be left handed or right handed and have built a set of connectors for the left side. Instead of placing additional connectors on the right side and then suppressing them, I would like to be able to mirror the connectors to the other side. However, I cannot select them in the mirror feature command, and they didn't seem to transfer over when I performed a solid mirror of the object itself. Can the ability to mirror connectors be added to FDS?
Here is my scenario in pictures below:
Left Connector Configuration
Right Configuration, Connector Still on Left Side
Desire to Mirror Connector, but Cannot
It is odd that I can select the connector as a feature in iLogic to suppress, but cannot select it as a feature to mirror. I would have to create fewer connectors if I could just mirror the existing one, as in the scenario above. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!
Many times I'll break a layout up into sub-layouts. I'd like the ability to apply some sort of tag to objects that reside in a sub layout from the top level or an upper level layout. A good example would be adding operation tags - (ie OP 010, 020)
Currently asset tags attach to assets ONLY. With some of my customers equipment may never become an asset (one off, not re-used elsewhere) and they still need to be tagged. Perhaps these would have to be a different kind of tag - other than asset tag.
It would be good to be able to record the simulation and export a section as a movie file that you could embed in a power point. We could have done with it the other day when we wanted to graphically show a standard batch process as part of a sales power point. We can't seem to share the simulation to other users in 360 either.
