I have a complex Revit model of my factory & processing equipment.
Is there a way to sync the Revit model to a FDU layout?
The Revit model has steel structure for overhead I-Beam conveyors and so would like to use FDU functionality to manage processing and analytics.
Is there any workflow between FDU & Revit?
Yes, it may 'work", however, it is not a very smooth workflow.
First the Import into Inventor, then opening that up with FDU and trying to get it to work.
I have not been able to get it to so far.
I have been using Revit for about (12) years and Inventor for about (10), and was looking to being able to add FDU function to my BIM structure I already have.
if you can provide some guidance and perhaps, we can discuss offline and not have to bore folks here in the forum with the detail, I would welcome it.
if you do not have my email, I would love to share and we can discuss it further.
I model equipment and some fixtures in Autodesk Inventor (2019) and then have to EXPORT BIM to create an RFA element I can then load into my Revit project.
I second DesignGuy12 comment. i was hoping there is already a link between revit and FDU.
in response to the previous comment, exported .rfa files from Inventor has its limitation e.g. when it comes to the model material or colour. In addition to that, after this exported .rfa file is appended to naviswork, it is laggy and the visuals are not as good as organic .rfa files. This workflow is inefficient and it is almost impossible to do walkthrough sessions if it is that laggy. In short, the file format conversion from inventor to revit affects Naviswork performance greatly. Also, having to use 2 types of 3D modelling platform just makes the workflow even more complex than it already is.
The link between Revit and FDU is very necessary especially when you have to plan a layout that is constantly changing which affects the building as well. I would like to suggest and explore the possibility of linking revit models as AutoCad assets in FDU. Instead of having to use inventor exported .rfa models.
open to other suggestion if there is any.
The biggest issue with FDU is that in order to create an equipment layout, you need to create a new bldg. model, b/c the Revit model can not be incorporated into FDU.
That is the KEY problem between the two packages.
if you could use your existing Revit models (bldgs) and then add the FDU layouts and equipment, then it would be a fantastic system. I would use it.
But last I knew, admittedly, some time back, b/c it didn't work, so I have not tried again, FDU did not recognize the Revit model and so I could not risk having TWO different versions of a bldg., in two different pacakages.
FDU seemed promising and I actually purchased the AEC package, b/c it included both Revit and FDU, but since they did not work together, I dropped the AEC package and now just buy Revit.
What a shame in Autodesk for not letting FDU use the Revit bldgs
