How to turn off the 2D-Representation of an Asset in Inventor/Navisworks

Hello everyone,

I have the problem in Inventor and Navisworks that I cannot hide the 2D drawing of the assets.
For example, in a layout presentation in Navisworks, I only want to see the 3D models.

I am creating several Factory Layouts with different Assets. I am using many self created, but a few System Assets, too.

During the creation of the assets, I customized the 3D models in Inventor and provided them with a 2D representation. This is because I always start planning in AutoCAD Architecture and need a 2D representation there. After synchronization to Inventor or Navisworks, the 2D drawings appear under the objects on the XZ plane.

How can I deactivate or hide these 2D drawings that are related to the objects? When I switch the 2D top view of an asset to "not visible" in Inventor, a 2D sketch still appears below the object. So is a 2D representation that I add superfluous? Since I have noticed that the listing of parameters for each placed system asset does not include a "2D top view" and also no option to hide this 2D drawing. An example can be seen in the picture.  (Forum.png)

(Even if it is in German, I hope that the meaning can be understood.)

Thanks for the help.

Greetz, Julian

Hi,

Can you show a screenshot so we know what you mean? When a 2D layout is sync'ed to Inventor or Navisworks, the dwg file will be attached in the 3D model. You can select it from the browser and turn the visibility off. If you meant the 2D sketch in the Inventor asset, that can be turned off too.

Thanks,

Hi @yizhou.cao

thanks for your reply.

In the attached screenshot you can find three pictures. The first two show the difference of the switch-off function of the circled object.
However, I can only switch off the 2D layout, which I added as a 2D representation when creating the asset (the one with the yellow lines). Interestingly, this 2D drawing is not used in AutoCAD. (The third picture in the screenshot from AutoCAD)

However, I still can't found the setting to hide the 2D model.

Thanks for your Help.

Julian

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to add the screenshot 🙂

In the assembly browser, do you see a dwg file with the same name as the layout? You should be able to right click on it and check Visibility to turn it off.

Thanks, I could do it with that.
Unfortunately this hides the complete 2D model. So also the created doors, walls, windows etc. in ACAD Architecture.
Is it also possible to hide selected 2D objects?

Thanks, Julian

There are two ways to do it.

1) Open the dwg file in AutoCAD, hide the entities you don't want to see, and save. Go back to Inventor and update the model.

2) In AutoCAD, move the entities you don't want to see to a specific layer, and save.  In Inventor, right click on the dwg in browser and select Layer Visibility. You can turn off the entire layer. This allows you to keep the entities visible in AutoCAD and invisible in Inventor.
