How to delete duplicate attributes?

Please see the attached dwg; how do I get rid of all the duplicate block attributes that suddenly proliferated?  ***NOTE: "BATTMAN" AND "ATSYNC" ARE COMPLETELY USELESS HERE, due to an INCREDIBLY short-sighted decision by AutoDesk to change the formatting of Factory Design Utilities Assets.

I do not have time to change block definitions one-by-one.  Some om my layouts have hundreds of block definitions.

Q: what are you calling "duplicate" in your file exactly? Or do you just mean you have visible attributes that you want to hide/erase?

Hi,

>> how do I get rid of all the duplicate block attributes that suddenly proliferated?

I can see your double block-attributes, and in principle I'm able to understand the problem when using normal block-insertions.

For that drawing structure (which seems to be just an export, but not really to work with that dataset) how do you proceed with that DWG-file? Where do you have issues with these doubled attributes.

Also important as I have not verified this now in detail: when the attributes are doubled, do the doubles all have the same value? So if an app removes one of the attributes the value can't be lost?

I have to get rid of ALL the duplicates because there are workers downstream of me that populate these attributes using a LISP routine; if there are extra fields it renders that process completely useless.

If they know LISP, ask them to either ignore double attributes or clean them. Wouldn't that work best?

The block definitions do not have attributes in them. That is why the attribute managing/syncing tools do not work. I think you will have to find a way to redefine those blocks to add them to the definitions.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Thanks to all who replied; what we may have to do is go back to inventor, replace the assets and re-sync back to AutoCAD.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have been contemplating your dilemma for a bit.  When the attributes get populated, do they get totally new values universally or only in some locations?

I tried modifying a couple of your blocks using block editor to add the attributes.  Then I was able to Sync in Battman to remove the existing attributes that are currently displayed. I think if you did this for each block and then substituted or redefined blocks in the drawings with the newly modified definitions, you might be able to proceed normally.

Hi John,

I'm wondering if you could give some background as to the operations that led to this state? In R2017, the way that asset tags are stored was changed and there was work done to migrate these when the layout is opened in Inventor. So for starters, I'm wondering what happens if you simply open the Inventor layout and redo the sync to AutoCAD without doing anything else.

Even with that though, the duplicate attributes is certainly a perplexing sight and it would be helpful if you recalled exactly how you got here.

Thanks for the help and apologies for the inconvenience.

Regards,

Glenn Poorman
