Factory Design Utilities - Custom 3D Production Line

Hello. I am a relatively longtime user of Autocad but new to the world of 3D. I am using Factory Design Utilities to model multiple manufacturing facilities that my company has.

I have many scenarios in my production lines where I am unable to obtain 3D files for machinery. Either the manufacturer is unwilling to provide to me, or the machines are so dated that they do not exist.

What would be my best option(s) to create a somewhat realistic version of the machines I have? I don't care so much about the internal components, but I would like something more detailed than a boxed-out footprint. I am hoping someone with more experience can chime in as to what is standard practice in this situation.

I don't think creating custom assemblies in inventor is something I could do in a reasonable timeframe due to the size of the project. I am open to 3d scanning options - however, most of what I have seen is either for handheld objects or very expensive laser scanners for entire buildings.

Below I have attached an example of machines I may be trying to replicate. (This is a new line that I was fortunate enough to get some 3d models from the manufacturer)

If this is not the right forum, please direct me to the right place.

Hi,

one workaround, that is used at one of our departments, is to use the dwg file instead of creating something in 3D.
My colleagues placing the dwg file of the old machine between the 3D objects.

This can also be used later at the 2D Inventor layout.

That is the fastet way.

Another possibility is, that somebody takes many pictures of the machines and this pictures can be converted at ReCAP to a new 3D file. But I never tried this by myself.
