Thanks for the suggestion and all the votes... what would this enable you to do that you can't already within Revit with Smart Snapping? What about this request would this be an improvement over what Smart Snapping already does (which is on by default)? If you assign a keyboard shortcut to Smart Snapping (to easily toggle off/on), does this help you achieve the goal behind this request?
@ssimleness the "connection" snap you are looking for is the snap named "Points" on the Object Snaps list in the picture you attached. During any command you can type the shortcut command (SX) to override your default snaps to just snap to connection "Points".
Here's how I remember: We referred to that particular snap as a "Node" in Fabrication CADmep. So if you wanted to snap override to the connection of a fabrication item you would ctrl-right click (the default for snap override menu I think?) and then type "n" for "Node." If you wanted a block (equipment or some other custom content) that you could attach fabrication items to in cad, you would place a point in the block at the location where you wanted to attach duct or pipe with the "Point" command.
TLDR: nodes=points.
Hope that helps, and that I haven't completely misinterpreted your original post!
Also - "s" and "x" are the two keys most likely to wear out first on my keyboard.
Hi Martin - another reason I'd vote this feature up would be to help differentiate a point from a connector when working with point clouds.
We leverage point clouds extensively, and if we have the point snap enabled, the program becomes VERY slow, attempting to analyze what point we're attempting to select.
When routing fitting to fitting, or doing Route and Fill, this becomes really messy.
Our workaround has been to turn off the point cloud in a 'modeling' view, and leave another view open to see what we've done with the Point Cloud. But our detailers right now have to be conscious of whether snaps are on or off when switching to a view with a PointCloud visible.
The program will become very slow if the point snap is enabled, which is why it would be great if the feature that had the option to toggle snap to connect to the 'connection' of a piece of fabrication content can be added. Route and fill also always become messy when the point snap is enabled.
@Anonymous - there are two separate snaps for "Point Clouds" vs. "Points". Are you finding that even with the "Point Cloud" snap mode turned off, that when you attempt to snap to a connector, it is still snapping to the cloud particles?
perhaps what is needed is optimization of the snap/point finding logic, as just adding more snap modes could still have the same underlying bottleneck.
Would you be able to provide a sample model that demonstrates the slowness you are referring to so that we can see where the bottleneck(s) are?
Also, an example of what you mean by 'route and fill .. become messy', I'm not sure how to interpret that without seeing it. Could you post a video and/or some further explanation?
