Service layer is _3D. Why?

Service layer is _3D. Why?

Hi

Can anyone shed any light as to why when I add some rain water pipes, all the components go on to the _3D layer? In the services database the layer info has been set but it's just not using it.

Would really appreciate any help as to why this is.

Many thanks

Make sure you CAD Types (see image) don't have 3D set to global. By selecting something as global it ignores your service layering.

If that isn't it, then verify the ITM's have their service types setup to match the service types you covered in the service/layer setup.

Thanks for the prompt response.

I've checked that global setting and it's unchecked.

Can you please explain a bit further about the ITM's and service types?  The content in question is also used with my soil and waste drainage services and they work just fine with the correct layers.

Thanks for the help so far.

Check to see if your drawn objects aren't losing their Service somehow, then the service layer definitions wouldn't be applied.

You may just need to reboot AutoCAD.

The service type on each object must 100% match something in your Services/ServiceTypes list. Fabrication applies layers based on the service type of each object. It is how valves can be on a valve layer and hangers can go on a hanger layer. So, if the root definition (ITM) of your objects don't have a Service Type that matches your specified layer definitions, then it doesn't know what to put the object on and reverts to the default CADType layers in my previous screenshot.

So... Also verify that your drawn objects aren't somehow losing their service types...

When I right click on the pipe button for this service and select 'edit', this is what I get...

What I'm not understanding, is that it's exactly the same as the button properties as the one in soil and waste drainage....and that one works fine with all components coming in on the correct layer.  I must be missing something somewhere.....

Incidentally, I've just rebooted autocad and no change.

Look at the pics from JHoward_HOB.  The service type setting in the service editor has to match up to service type set in the pip.

I don't think yours does.  Your service is set to pipework and your pipe is set to Drainage.

I also see another issue.  Your pipe is not on a service.  Yours is set to None.

Cheers. I think that's fixed it. I set them both to pipework and it came in on the correct layer.

Couldn't set the service type in the button properties though. I can change it easily but it always reverts back to 'none'. Don't suppose it matters though as once the part is drawn, it's on the correct service type :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks to you all for your help.
