Project Browser or Project Navigator

Anyone have a good reason/solution as to why there is no Project Browser/Navigator in the FAB CADMEP products, but here is in the ACAD MEP products? There are some neat advantages to the Browser that would be great to utilize.

Hi treed,

Thank you for contributing to the Autodesk Community! I understand you would like to see a project browser/navigator function in the Fabrication CADmep product.

This is a great enhancement request that can be submitted directly to our development team in two different ways:

  • We highly encourage all users to address their ideas for improvement on Fabrication products to our Autodesk Fabrication Idea Station website.
  • The following link is set up for you to submit feature requests directly to our Development group: PRODUCT FEEDBACK. I encourage you to share any ideas as our Development group is always interested to hear your feedback directly since you are better suited to state the business case for a feature request.

If my post answers your question, please click the "Accept as Solution" button. This helps everyone find answers more quickly!

While I appreciate your comment, remember not all companies operate the same and what works for yours doesn't always mean it works for everyone. I wouldn't have thought it was that useful until I was shown some neat things with it. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you already own AutoCAD MEP you could still use it for FabMep.  If you don't already own it then it would be an expensive add on just for the project navigator.

I am all for something to help manage projects, but if it is over managed (P3D comes to mind) it would just be a curse.

Edit: Very important that cadMEP never lose its sandbox design for something rigid! We've been able to accomplish many incredible things that aren't native because of its open ended nature.

Project Navigator is a great solutiont to file management! I have used and implemented it in conjunction with Fabrication CADmep. Unfortunately, it is not in the vanilla CAD and AutoCAD MEP is not offered in the new Fabrications Suite.

The Navigator keeps your drafters in CAD as much as possible. The amount of time wasted pathing through Windows to open, view, or xref a file is amazing. Navigator lets you stay in program for these features, it also ties in the SheetSets function that is more widely used since it is in vanilla CAD.

**Caution** This is the only problem I have found with using it in conjunction with Fabrication. IF you have seperate databases for Pipework and Ductwork, DO NOT use the Xref Repair tool! Each file contains a cache of information from the database, the cache will get swapped out and corrupt all the fittings in model. It is not repairable and you will need to restore a back up. **Caution**
