Objects not automatically attaching to current layers

Im pretty new to Autocad, my issue is Im currently in FAB MEP and running hangers on pipe. Im not quite sure what happened but my pipe and insulation used to be the same color yet when I checked the layers and properties nothing has changed. The more bothersome part is when I used my hanger tool on the pipe the Hangers would automatically change to that layer. For example If my layer was MP-HW for the pipe, when I put a hanger on that piece of pipe it would automatically adopt that layer. Now if I have layer "0" selected and try to put a hanger on "MP-HW", The hanger will only adopt the properties of Layer "0". Any information would be helpful. Thank you

Hello @Anonymous ,

This is very odd behavior. CADmep items should be placing on pre-defined layers, no matter the layer you are on. They don't act like normal items created in base AutoCAD.

To try and narrow down what's happening, are you able to check the following:

  • Is this happening with every item placed, or is this only happening to a select few items?
  • If a new empty file is created, no layers are created, and CADmep items are placed, do they behave the same way?
  • Is this happening if the default Imperial configuration is chosen, instead of any custom configuration?

Hello @Anonymous ,

I wanted to check to see if you would be able to post that extra info to narrow this down, or if you had questions or concerns about the requested information. Don't hesitate to reply back if you need help!

I have this happen once in a while. I'm working in ACAD MEP 2025 electrical. I insert a device and it stays on the current layer. Same thing when i try to connect two devices with the wiring, the wiring stays on the current layer. Is there something i need to turn on to get this to go to the correct key layer?
