Numbering Duct with Revit 17 Fabrication

Can anyone tell me how to or where the numbering feature would be in REvit 17 CADmep Fabrication for duct.  I have heard that this feature is finally available in 2017, but i cannot seem to locate it.  All i am trying to do is assign individual piece number to each piece of duct and the fittings like you can with AutoCad.

Thank you

I haven't seen anything built into Revit direct, though I number of add-ons are available to renumber just about anything. Also please make sure you are using 2017.1 update. There were some pretty big additions in that release worth spending the time on for the upgrade. Hope this helps.

Applied Software has a renumbering tool specifically for Fabrication parts in Revit. It takes also takes advantage of the exposed Item Number field so the information will export with the .maj.

As I mentioned a number of plug-ins are available from various re-sellers.

Can you provide a link? Is there a cost? Thank you.

Hello,

I contacted Applied Software about this Revit Fabrication tool.  They are still testing it out right now, hoping to make available for public purchase in the next few weeks.

Great thank you! Do you know when this will become available, by chance.  I asked about beta testing and they didn't need anyone else.  We are in need of a renumbering tool!

I have the Revit Renumber tool now and got it work, sort of.  Can you tell me if the item number tags in the screenshot below are something that come with Revit Fab, come with the renumber tool, or is this something that I am going to have to make every single tag we need from scratch?  It seems as though these should be stored somewhere?  Thank you!

Tags are very customizable in Revit and our goal is to NOT lock users into a certain look or workflow. Some companies have expressed interest in using Oval Tags for Over Duct and Square Tags for Square Duct etc etc. We felt it best to allow each company to have control over how their tags display rather then lock you into a certain style.

I have attached the annotation family I used in the video. There are also several annotation families that come with the default installation, paths listed below. These can be edited and repurposed to annotate other types of data.

Ductwork - C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\US Imperial\Annotations\Mechanical\Duct

Pipework - C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries\US Imperial\Annotations\Pipe

David,

Another question about the Revit Renumber tool now that I am giving it a try.  Sorry, I am not sure if this is the forum to keep asking questions, but hopefully I'm just overlooking the answer.  Is there not a way to give identical pieces the same part number and also select the order you would like to tag? If I check one, the other gray's out(screenshot below).  It's not the end of the world if my part numbers jump from piece to piece but, wondering if there is a way to make this happen.

Thank you for all the help

We could probably make this happen. Typically when selecting items in a specific order, each piece has a different number regardless if they are the same or not. But, or course that is just my perception of the work flow. Let me talk to development to see what we can do to make both happen.

Thanks for looking in to it for me. Like I said, it's not the end of the world if all the piece numbers are jumping from one piece to the next. But, on the larger floors or systems with lots of duct work it's easier for the field guys if the part numbers are closer together. It's also our shops preference to have identical pieces to have the same number. So, that's the reasoning why we like to have both options. Again, we really appreciate all the help!

That is standard practice for us as well, so I imagine it's going to be a fairly common request.

I've been looking for other utilities that provide the function of renumbering fabrication parts.

Bad news: I can't seem to find anything but the Applied version. There are lots of other renumber tools out there, but apparently they are limited (I'm assuming by the API) to only certain types of categories, and the fabrication parts are just too new for developers to focus on it yet.

Good news: Based on the comments here, reviews and such, it looks like Applied did their job well in developing this utility, but only time and use will tell.

Now if only I could get a copy of it... hint hint Smiley Wink
