Fabrication mep file

Hi all,

I received a 3D dwg file, containing some elements inside that were created on Fabrication MEP (MAPS_SOLIDs). I'm working with Autocad 2018 and when I go to the layout tab, and try to use the "base view from model space", this elements simply do not display on the viewport. Any solution?

Thanks in advance,

Antonio.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I have not tried a VIEWBASE with files from Fabrication MEP.  Is it possible to attach a sample for me to see if I can provide you with a solution.

Thanks John.

I have the original file in my office, but I will enclose a test one that I've done at home where it is happening the same thing. I have 2 parts in the file: one straight duct created from the MEP library and another one witch is a simple 3D solid. If you have a look on paper space, the viewport that I created only displays one of the parts.

Hi @Anonymous,

I can confirm what you are seeing.  I downloaded and installed the MEP object enabler.  I was then able to see the proxy objects in the drawing.  I ran EXPORTTOAUTOCAD but Viewbase still doesn't show the object from MEP. Let me do some research to see if there is another way to work around this.

Hi @Anonymous,

From what other specialists have told me, the most likely way to get this to work is to export to plain AutoCAD from Fabrication MEP.  If you do not have the program perhaps you could download a Trial to give it a try.

I´m sorry for the delay John.

One of my kids got chicken pox and I didn't have the time to try what you've sugested until now.

I've tried the "EXPORTOCAD" command but I've had no results. It created me a dwg/idw file that I could only open with inventor and it didn´t had nothing inside the file.

António

Hi @Anonymous,

Sorry to hear of your child's illness.

Yes, I tried the Object Enabler too but with no success. I suggest you download a Trial of Fabrication MEP and do the export from there.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry but I thought you meant from AutoCAD.  Please be patient and I will download and install Fabrication MEP too and see if I have any better luck.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that Viewbase doesn't show this object even in Fabrication MEP so it is no surprise that exporting didn't work either. The object is listed as a MAP Solid Pattern Library.  This apparently won't convert to a regular 3D solid.

I suggest we move this thread to the Fabrication forum to see if you can get better suggestions there.
