Exporting pipes in RIF are split when importing into FABmep

I'm having a huge problem with exporting pipes from Revit to FABmep. My pipes (linear segments) are coming into FABmep with a gap in the middle. When I import the same RIF file into ESTmep, they are listed as individual items.

 

What am I doing wrong?

I've noticed a couple things when exporting RIF files and then bringing them into fabmep.  1 could be the lengths you have set for your pipe when you set them to a specific system  during process run.  Another could be if there's anything in the Revit file, if it's split there or extra welds.  It could also be the naming that is being used in Revit and the way it's mapped in Fabrication cadmep.  A lot of times I can get maybe 60% from the revit file and fix the drawing in fabmep so it's constructable.

My pipe lengths are less than 3', and I'm using the default Revit mapping when I'm doing the process run. It's just frustrating that something as simple as a length of pipe is having an "open end" added to the middle of the design line for no apparent reason.

 

But, thanks for the tip on having to do some editing in FABmep.

 

That'll have to work for now, until the problem with the software is addressed.

I'm brand new to FABmep, so I'm a little slow when it comes to AutoCAD based interfaces (I'm normally a Revit guy) and this installation is right out of the box...

I don't see where it tells me in the right-click menu...

In processrun, did you specify a system for the pipe to come in at?

Following the tutorial lessons I selected the system as shown in the new attachment.

No sweat man.  It looks like it's calling the to Condenser Water service, and General Piping for the specification.  See the screen shot below for the service name and where to right click on the pipe to check the length.

I'm more concerned with figuring out why Revit is exporting the design line elements with extra nodes. I'm preparing a presentation to show how a customer can go from Revit to the Fabrication products, and the RIF file is creating duplicates in FABmep, ESTmep and CAMduct. The raw RIF file from Revit, when imported into ESTmep, shows the same splitting of linear pipe elements. Any thoughts on why Revit is doing this?

I think that it is the fabmep that is putting in the extra welds on the import side, especially if it shows one length of pipe in revit.  If you have 5 minutes, we can do a quick goto and try to trouble shoot.

We are having the same problem in our shop.  When exporting from Revit it puts an extra node at the middle of each segment.  it does this for both pipe and ductwork.  We have been having to go through and clean up each design line which takes some time, especially if it is a big project.  I'm wondering if anyone has the solution.

Dale, I apologize for not documenting what Adam and I had to troubleshoot.  I believe it had to do with the order of operation.  If you have an example ready, we can also do a goto meeting and I'll post the resolution for other users to see.

The solution is pretty simple.  During the import of the rif file, in the Mappings dialog box, under the Services Tab, we set all specifications to "Not Set" because that is already set up under the services.  We also set everything under ignore to "No". On the Fittings Ignores tab, we set everything to "Yes".  There are some exceptions for what to ignore, more so in sheet metal (end of line equipment vs in line equipment).
