Changing the CID

If you changed the CID for different fittings/items, can you some how apply those new CID numbers to previous jobs?

Hoping that there is some way of accomplishing this task without having to redo the job.

What are you trying to accomplish? Maybe look a swapin command

I don't believe you can do today's job with yesterday's methods and be in business tomorrow.

I have to change all the duplicant CID's for new software for project tracking. Bacically I'm exporting to a CSV file, and then they are importing that file into the estimating software. For this to get mapped correctly the CID's have to all be different.

So I was asked if we could do this for previous jobs, and I have not a clue if you can since they have a different set of CID's attached to them.

Any thoughts?

I do not believe CID Numbers are Scriptable, as that would be the only cost effective way of do it. They need to look at another Option than to be using CID Numbers as some Items can be totally diffrent yet be derived from same CID.

That's the import format the estimating software company utilizes to map to the correct fittings and items. Which is why we have to change the CID numbers, but they were hoping the there would be a way to attach the new CID's to previous jobs without having to redo the entire project.

Something doesn't seem correct. What Estimating software are you using?

To answer your original question, yes, the CID number can be scripted and that'll be able to be run on previous jobs.

That being said, there's very few reasons tyhe CID number should be changed to anything other than it's default wqhich is the pattern number.

Changing the CID # can have very negative consequences to other aspects of your software functionality. If you have other scripts using them, reports, filters, etc, that all can stop functioning or function incorrectly.

If your estimating solution requires you to change all the CID's you should find a new estimating solution as it's not a sound approach.  Typically, an estimating software would be referecing some other unique ID or product code. Harrison Code, UPC, etc.
