CAMduct - My Incompetence OR False Advertisement?

Hi all,

I am getting to know CAMduct and have come across a major issue. When editing connectors to create an allowance for seams the option is there but has no effect on any physical dimensions and does not affect the nest (after applying the settings and renesting).

This is not the only option that seems entirely for looks, most options that are 'available' under edit connector are the same. At first I thought something I had done was overriding the option, apparently this was not the case. I contacted someone who has been using CAMduct extensively over the years and was told that many of the parameters are in fact 'dead'.

Not having the option to do something is fine, but when I am told I can do it when there is actually no functionality I consider it to be false advertising.

This is the source of my information:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fabrication-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2...

So either both myself and another CAMduct user are mistaken (which I am hoping is the case) or Autodesk has listed CAMduct functionality that does not exist.

You are both "mistaken"!

The value entered for the "Turnover" parameter will be added to the programed length of the duct.

If it is not working this way for you there is something wrong with your setup.

You may need to re-develop the part after changing the Database settings to have the changes applied.

Hi Lance, thanks for the reply. I have already set the turnover length to the required amount for this flange.

The reason I made this post is to point out that MOST of the parameters under connectors actually do nothing. Like absolutley nothing, even after redeveloping the part. There is nothing wrong with my setup either, I am working from a copy of the original database CAMduct ships with, if there is an issue with my setup, it would be Autodesk's issue.

I can set the turnover as long as I like, but the length of my notch would have to change with it. Which would not work.

'Seam Cut Back (Male/Female)' does absolutely nothing; 'Roller Allowance' again, does absolutely nothing. There are other parameters I could mention but you get the idea, and I figured that either of these options should solve my seam issue.

Any further assistance in obtaining a solution would be greatly appreciated.

We have a mirriad of connectors, seams and notches which add/subtract metal and/or insulation as required and apply a variety of notches to seams and connectors for ease of fabrication on the factory floor.
Some of the options you mention, such as " Roller Allowance" apply only to Oversize seams as you will see if you read the Help file which you referenced.

I think you will find your issue is that you need to understand the interaction between Notches, Seams and Connectors and get them set up as required.

If you post a diagram of what you are trying to achieve I might be able to help.

Hi Lance,

I’ll be sure to post a picture of what I am trying to achieve by Monday, appreciate your help. I was not aware that these only apply to oversized seams, I couldn’t find (or overlooked) any information regarding oversized seams. Also, apologies for sounding abrupt in my earlier comments, I suppose I have been under a fair bit of pressure to get this right.

Again, thanks for the help.
