Autocad tries to open Fabrication when inserting blocks

In 2023 and 2024 versions

When I have a drawing open various actions make Autocad try to load a Fabrication database when I have no need for it and haven't asked it too. Is it a bug or is there a way to stop it.

For example I am in a DWG and I go to the tool palette and select a block to insert certain blocks will try to open the Fabrication DB.

I've tried to create a viedo to show it but not sure if it will work.

Are you running FAB CADMEP by chance? It looks like your library might be from there. You decided not to reveal your software in your video for some reason. I do love the old-school toolbars-only look :slightly_smiling_face:

AFAIK your library content is calling for that: you don't get to decide sadly, unless you wish to manually edit your entire library to remove all possibly links to FAB in each of those source DWG files (freebie add-ins like ZOMBIE KILLER can do that if you've never installed it).

Hi

This video is of standard Autocad 2024. I only use fabrication when required and use the command TAKEOFF to load it into autocad.

It never used to do it but then around 2022/23 it started and has been bugging me ever since.

Finally got around to asking the question.

All blocks are void of any layers or blocks and only contain lines/text/attributes/dynamic parameters.

I don't do that, and I'm running plain 2024 too, so there is a possible trigger for what you see.

Doesn't do that or me in 2022 nor 2023 (nor 2024) either. But again, I do not have FAB installed, I don't open my files in that variant, and I do not open blocks from there either.

Do this: drop a few of those blocks in your video into a new DWG file created from scratch in only plain AutoCAD2024, if the problem shows up, share that DWG file here with that content in it.

If that issue never appears, open this same test file in FAB, do whatever you normally do there, QSAVE it in FAB, open it in plain2024 and see if the problem reappears. If it does, share this file here for others to examine.

TIA

Fresh plain Acad 24 opened.

Inserted two blocks via the palette and both tried to open Fabrication.

DWG attached.

Thanks for sharing: I opened your file in plain AutoCAD 2023 and 2024 (I do not have FAB installed) and inserted additional copies of your blocks. No FAB prompt kicked on or much of anything else.

Inserted a few of my own blocks, nothing.

Started a new file, copy/pasted your blocks into this file, nothing.

Used ADCENTER to drag/drop your blocks into yet another new DWG file in 2024.Nothing.

Created a custom TP from your DWG file, dragged/dropped each of the two blocks into yet another new DWG file. Nothing.

I'm going to guess your post needs to move to the FABCADMEP forum to see if fellow FCM users like you can see this issue and replicate it. I can help you move this post over there if you don't wan to start a new post here is the link to that forum https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fabrication-cadmep-forum/bd-p/165
