I have apps published for Autocad, Navisworks and am building one for Revit. Every time a new version of these software are released, i need to upgrade my app in order to be compatible with the latest software. I have done migrations for autocad, 2016, 2017 and am working on the one for Navisworks 2017. However i still have to perform all these upgrades for 2018. This is too much maintenance from an app developer's point of view, and prevents development of new apps as all the effort is gone in just maintaining existing apps. Autodesk app store should provide backward compatibility of all the software. i.e. AutoCad 2018 should be able to load all of the apps developed for AutoCad 2017 and can also take in more apps that leverage newer functionality. This way once an app developer has built a functionality for Autocad(or Navisworks, or Revit) they can be assured that the functionality will be applicable is all future versions of the software, and they can focus on providing more functionality and making the experience better for users. Another option is for Autodesk itself to make the migration for all apps such that they run on the newer software. In the absence of this, overtime a lot of developers will eventually drop off and stop maintaining the apps they have developed and a lot of effort is wasted.
