Unable to add / move components

I am unable to move any components that have been part of a design for a few days.

Here is what I know: The board’s origin is 0,0 and all dimensions are positive; the overall size of the board is fine for Standard 9.4.2; when I ‘Zoom to fit’, only the board is shown, there are no parts off the board; if I shrink the board to 16 sq in, no improvement; all components are well within the edges of the board; if I add a new resistor to the schematic, it can’t be placed; if I delete a part and re-add it in schematic, no improvement; the origin handles are not locked, they all are a ‘+’, not a ‘x’; f/b annotation is active, so I haven’t broken the schematic / board relationship; I’ve rebooted my Macbook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 multiple times. This is a moderately complex board that I really don’t want to tear up and start over. Ideas, please?

Hi @Anonymous

maybe a matter of selection filters?

Please hit Reset for making all objects selectable.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the screen shot for the reset. Unfortunately, it doesn't fix the problem. It's acting like my board is too large, autoroute won't start, for example. I upgraded to Standard just to do this board, it has been complete for a few days other than some non-essential adjustments, so I could simply accept this, but it is frustrating. What I don't get is why this started days after I completed the overall board, and all I have been adding are just minor routing optimizations.

Hi @Anonymous,

Check your grid settings, make sure that your grid is set to a non-zero value. If it's set to zero then it could be the case that you can't move anything around.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi, Jorge,

Thank you, my grid setting is 3 mil and so no effect.

I can move traces, move / rotate reference designators, alter perimeter dimensions, but can't add/move/rotate parts or autoroute.

I appreciate the help!

Cheers,

Frank

Hi @Anonymous,

Hold up a second, if the board is already routed running the autorouter again won't do anything so that part is expected. In order for the autorouter to run you have to ripup everything. What happens if you add a new component on the schematic and try to move the component on the board? Remember that you can only move the component by it's handle (usually at the center of the component).

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi, Jorge,

Adding a component is impossible, buried in my original post:  " if I add a new resistor to the schematic, it can’t be placed; if I delete a part and re-add it in schematic, no improvement",  I'm able to grab a part and hover over any part of the board, but I am not able to place it, so I am definitely am selecting the origin.

This is a tube phono preamp, what's making the layout dense is how large the capacitors are, so I'm using all the board area I'm allowed.

Thanks!

Frank

This sounds like the board area license restriction is kicking in to me. Are you sure nothing is outside of the license limits? Is your license type show correctly in EAGLE?

Hi, Rachael,

That's what it feels like. My path says /Applications/PhonoPreamp.brd - EAGLE 9.4.2 standard. In About Eagle it says: License type: EAGLE Standard License For Commercial Use. The board is 5.1" x 4.6", 23.46 sq in so the dimensions are fine. When I zoom out with all layers on, I don't see anything. Is there a technique / trick to locate very small objects outside of a board?

Thanks,

Frank

I just updated to 9.5.1 and it works now. Thank you, everybody, for all of your help!
