Student License

My student project team used the professional license last year with no issue before EagleCAD was bought by AutoDesk. This year we downloaded the student version that allegedly had premium capabilities; however we cannot create the board sizes we need and it constantly berates us for being outside of the boarders. We never had this issue with the professional license last year. Is there anything we can do about this? We are seriously considering switching to Altium because this new Eagle offers us no customer support except for referring us to post on forums....

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome! Great to have you in the community.

The premium version of Eagle and the educational version are the same with the exception of license restrictions. This should be indicated at the top of the program as EAGLE 8.0.0 premium. Could you please verify your program indicates this?

What size board are you attempting to create? Could you provide us a screenshot of the outside borders error message?

You can find educational support within our educational site here, but the community is also a great place for help, as there are many of us from Autodesk in these boards. Let me know, we are happy to help further.

Hello klek.4,

I hope you're doing well. Did you guys register at students.autodesk.com, if you are getting out of board size errors it would seem that you are not using the Premium version but rather the Free version. Please confirm.

Following Matthew's suggestion, could you post a screenshot of the error you are seeing?

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

I am facing the same issue. I downloaded the free version and then upgraded to the student license. But it seems like Eagle isn't recognizing...
In the software it says "EAGLE Free License for non-commercial use and evaluation purposes". I got confirmation that on my account
the premium version is set from the support. I tried logging in and out from EAGLE, also tried reinstalling (I have it on my Mac Book Pro).
I was also a bit disappointed by the overall support, because I got redirected two times now. Any help?

Hi @schoxzz,

Welcome! You mentioned that you previously downloaded the free version. In doing so you create licensing information on your computer for that version, which would need to be removed in order to run the student version as it precedes the student version licensing information. Here is how to remove your licensing information, but I would suggest just doing a clean uninstall and starting from scratch. You should be able to find the download for premium within your Autodesk Account.

That didn't fixed it. It turned out that Flexnet wasn't installed on my machine...

For anybody facing the same issue on the mac install the license manager:
https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-network-licens...

Restart EAGLE or whatever product you are using and it should work, at least it did for me.

Is this for real? With online license validation there should be no need to suggest somebody uninstall and reinstall software to get it to license correctly. Even having to dig around in hidden folders and delete things isn't really acceptable. Signing out of the Autodesk account and back in again in EAGLE should be the most that is required and if that isn't the case then that should be fixed. Ideally there should just be a button in the page that shows the current entitlement to refresh the license information from the server.

As far as I am aware there isn't a separate download for the premium version of EAGLE. The functionality is determined by the license validation.

Thank you, no doubt I will stumble on this issue when I upgrade my v7 license to v8 premium so this info will no doubt save me a bunch of time. Thanks!

Hi @rachaelATWH4,

The intent was to provide multiple options, as many different setups can exist, thus the first suggestion to remove the licensing information, which does not require a reinstall. It is intended to work with just the sign in. I fully agree this is ideal, but as @schoxzz indicated above, this was not working.

I was not suggesting there is a different download, just that it is available in your account if you are looking for it, as the entitlement should have already created. Let me know if you have any trouble when moving versions, as I am happy to assist.

Apologies @schoxzz, I wasn't aware you were on a network license as opposed to a stand alone.

Hi Mr. Garcia, great to hear from you again!! I've attached the screenshot from the alleged student version. Half of my team has gotten the "premium" status, and the other half still has the "free" version. It does say premium and free on top of the control panel, respectively. How can we fix this?

Thanks so much,

Hello Erika,

I hope you're doing well. Did you remember to signup for a student license at students.autodesk.com? If you did can you log into your Autodesk Account and confirm whether you see the EAGLE entitlement or not?

Please accept as solution if this solves your issue, if not please reply and I'll contact the appropriate team to look at your entitlement situation.

Dear Mattew,

I created a new account, I registered my datas as educator in https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/eagle#

after the educator registration I selected Step 2 Get Access to Eagle obtaining: "You’ve obtained access to this product."

Still, in my download manager I still have only 5 softwares, Eagle is not one of them. Since this is not a problem of "clean install" I suppose I'm doing wrong something or there's a bug in the registration process.

Ok, the I obtained the student license so for me the situation is fixed. On the other hand, a phd collegue of mine still face the same issue, he performed all the registration steps, and obtained (as you can see in the screenshot) the access to the product but still doesn't see eagle in the software manager list.

I glad to hear you got your license.

And it's sad your colleague still doesn't have access.

I've asked our support guys to have a look at it. Hope they could help.

@matthew.d also I forgot to mention all the story. performed all the registration steps, and obtained the access to the product. I downloaded it from the link in this page because it wasn't in the software manager list:

I installed it and after sign in, appeared the "Eagle Premium License for commerical use" or something like this.

In the meantime there was a minor update of the software so I (ingenuously) updated the software from 8.5.0 to 8.5.2. From that point the license changed to "EAGLE Free License for non-commercial use and evaluation purposes".So I tried to reinstall it from scratch (8.5.0) but nothing changed as you can see.

Could be the updating the cause of this problem?

Please let me know, Thank you!

Hi Simone,

If you look at your last picture, where you see the "wifi" like symbol with your name to the right of it, to the right of that is an arrow pointing down which denotes a drop down menu. If you look in that menu are you signed in or out? My guess is you are signed out. If you are then sign back in again. If you are signed in already then sign out and back in again, hopefully this will force it to refresh your details from the license system.

Updating to 8.5.2 won't have broken the licensing as such, what is does do is require EAGLE to re-validate your license entitlement for the new version. Normally it should pop up a sign in box for this.

FYI, definitely use 8.5.2 it has important fixes.

Best Regards,

Rachael
