Status of OrCAD Schematic Import Feature

Greetings,

I have seen posts concerning the potential creation of an OrCAD Schematic import function for Eagle that date back to 2017. I am writing to ask if any further development is planned on this feature or not.

As a contract development engineer, 99% of our schematic designs have been done using OrCAD 9.2 since its release. To be able to bring these schematics into Eagle would be a huge benefit for us and I'm sure other engineers in the same situation. To further explain our requirements, we usually export netlists into PADS PowerPCB for PCB layout. I would rather work within Eagle from start to finish, but don't expect to bring any existing PCB designs from PADS into Eagle, but having the ability to bring the OrCAD schematic designs in would be very beneficial.

Please advise as to the status of this development, if there is anything we can do to help let me know.

Thanks for your help.

Dan

I too am looking (desperately) for a solution for importing OrCad files. If there is currently no direct import into Eagle, is there a workaround, such as an intermediate format exported from OrCad? Thank you

Hi Guys,

I hope you're doing well. At this point in time we don't have direct import into EAGLE. If OrCAD can export a PCAD ascii then we can import that with some measure of success but that's about it. You can bring in the libraries using library.io but that is what we have at this time.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I could be wrong, but I think the question could be restated as ;

Can Eagle import any text based netlist?

Orcad can export many formats of netlists. I don't need Eagle to import the schematic file. I just Eagle to import a certain format that is command to what Eagle can import and Orcad can export.

If Eagle can import a specific netlist format, then Orcad would need to export to that specific format.

Having Eagle a stand alone PCB layout tool would go a long way considering the competitors are going towards fully integrated tools, which has caused me soo many problems over the years.

Being able to use a universal netlist solves many problems.
