Selecting traces that overlap to delete wirestubs

Sometimes I need to delete a trace or wirestub that overlaps with traces on other layers or in the case of wirestubs, that are hidden under the traces, but selecting a particular trace isn't always easy as I may end up selecting the wrong trace.  Is there a way to select, then cycle through the traces till I get to the one I want to delete?  In another cad program I was using I could just simply press the Tab key to cycle through the traces under the cursor.  If there is no such feature, how do others handle this?  Thanks.

Hello,

If you have the rip tool selected and right click and there are multiple choices for objects to rip up then you will get a next option in the menu like this:

Alternatively, if you want to select from just a particular layer because you know what you don't want to select is on other layers then use the new selection filter like this:

Also, you can use the selection filter to narrow down on different object types. If you haven't used the selection filter yet I highly recommend experimenting with it and also the object inspector. Once you've figured out how they work and how to adapt your workflow to make use of them they are awesome.

Best Regards,

Rachael

That was easy.  Funny, I've been using the Delete tool all this time to rip up traces, I forgot entirely about the rip-up tool.  How do you show that panel with the 3 tabs (inspector, manager, filter).  I looked through all my menu items and can't find this.  Thanks for the help.

Hi Ken,

What version of EAGLE are you using? This was new to 9.4 so if you haven't updated it may be worth looking at grabbing 9.4.1, it's got huge upgrades to the route tool as well 🙂

If you are on 9.4 already these should be available from the view menu:

I actually have 9.3.0 and there is only a Design Manager selection in the view menu, no Inspector or Filter selections as you show

Yep 9.3.0 doesn't have the Selection Filter or Object Inspector. You can grab the latest 9.4.1 from here:

It was actually added in 9.4.0, not 8.4.0 :). It will show up with all panels at different locations of the screen but you can drag & drop them on top of each other to create the 3 tabs like Rachael has it set up.
