I have a very annoying problem in Eagle 8.0. If I edit a custom library, Eagle suddenly hangs. There is no way out, and if I try to close the library or even the application, I get only a message "Can't close window while command is running!". The only way out is to kill the application - so I lose all unsaved changes to this point.
It seems this happens if I rename symbols or packages, or cloning them in the library. After I switch to another package or symbol, Eagle hangs.
Is this a known problem? Is there any solution?

I hope you're doing well, and I'm really sorry for what's going on. I totally understand the frustration your feeling and we are doing everything we can to get this sorted.
Now with 8.0.2, do you get the window that says "Can't close editor window blah blah blah" or are you just getting a straight crash?
It's important to know, because it looks like the same bug can cause either of the two behaviors.
I'll report back as soon as I have more information.
Best Regards,
Hey Jorge,
Just to add another voice on this, I have just downloaded v8.0.2 and tried it out and I also still see this problem. This time I got the library editor lock up for a few seconds and then EAGLE exited abruptly with a crash error log. I've sent you an email with my log attached. With v8.0.1 I had the same error @curtvb is seeing. I look forward to seeing a v8.0.3 with this finally fixed!
Best Regards,
Rachael
I just downloaded and tested Version 8.0.2 of Eagle. Honestly, I really wondered how this version passed your QM department... (if you have one).
This version can reliably crashed using this steps:
At this point Eagle crashes.
Video attached with a higher frame rate.
The hang problem exists exactly as described for version 8.0, 8.0.1. There is no difference. It is now a little bit harder to reproduce, because Eagle crashes that quickly. But I could reproduce it twice.
Just for completeness, here the hang problem with version 8.0.2. It is can be reproduced every time. Basically it makes the library editor not really usable. The only "workaround" is to save the library after every step, close it and reopen it. But still, even doing this, the hang happens from time to time.
A video with higher frame rate is attached.
Hi @Amyoqzy,
Thank you for the screencasts, I'm always appreciate when customers give videos to have a complete picture of the issue. I can confirm that the problem is still in 8.0.2. This bug is proving to be extremely difficult to track down. It's actually producing two different behaviors in some cases it will hang EAGLE, in others it will outright crash it you can go through the same procedure multiple times some times you'll hang, sometimes you'll crash.
I've posted a more elaborate reply on this thread:
We really apologize for the inconvenience this is causing and we are working as hard as we can to get this resolved. We will continue releasing updates constantly as we get these issues resolved.
If there's any additional information please feel free to post it here.
Best Regards,
I've experienced this issue several times now but unfortunately can't reproduce it on demand. If I can, I will provide steps! I've usually experienced it when attempting to re-edit a package in a library from the table of contents, however double clicking the package does nothing even though I was modifying it moments prior.

Hi Ritchie,
I hope they get it fixed too but as a work around you can download EAGLE v7 from here: ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/program/
The library editor in v7 is fully functional even in the freeware version so it's a stable way to create your library parts until such time they manage to get a reliable fix for all the current stability issues.

Rachael

Hi Ritchie,
Use v7.7, it's the most up to date version.

This probably should be moved to its own thread as it's completely separate. My first thought would be have you loaded a DRC setting file or is it just using the default settings?

Rachael
Hi

Yes it's a little odd, I've never seen that before myself. It's there in the board which is the main thing. If its causing you concern then create a separate thread for it and maybe Jorge or Ed from Autodesk will be able to shed some light on it when they get online later.
Best Regards,
Rachael
I would want like to thanks Jorge Garcia for his precious help and professionalism.
Bravo
