Mirror text without changing layer

Hi,

how do you mirror a custom text on bottom layer without chaning it back to top layer?

If you place a component on bottom layer, the component name is automatically mirrored. Working perfectly.

For custom text I dont find the feature to do this manually. Using mirror will just change the text from top to bottom but that doesnt change the orientation of the text so you can still read it like it is on top layer. This will result into a not readable text later in production.4.JPG3.JPG

Okay, I found out that you can mirror text via the inspector menu, still seems to be quite buggy because its still changes the layer and then mirroring it. So afterwards just change the layer by hand.

Anyway for imported bmp this solution is not working. Easiest way: Mirror the picture before importing.

Which version?

The behaviour you describe would definitely be a bug - the rules for mirroring custom text should be the same as attribute text. Indeed, I've never encountered the problem you describe. If I create a text object on the bNames, bPlace or bValues layer, it is created in bottom-view (mirrored). If I swap between top and bottom layers while placing custom text, it mirrors as I do so. And if I use the "mirror" tool on such a text, it swaps layers. The only thing I haven't tried is changing the layer property from the info dialog or object inspector, but I'm not at an Eagle machine to try either of those now.

I experienced this behavior in 9.5.1 education

OK, the problem is you used the "info" dialog (or similar) to change the layer in the first place. Text placed on bottom layers is correctly oriented for bottom view by default, and the "proper" way to change things from top to bottom or vice versa has always been to "mirror" it, which does the right thing. It's only the info dialog and object inspector that allow you to change layer without mirroring, which I guess may be useful very occasionally but generally isn't what you want.

Can 't understand how you manage to do that?

If you have some text on tNames and mirror it then it goes to bNames and flips its orientation so it's correct when viewed from the bottom. If however rather than using mirror you simply go into its properties or use the object inspector to manually change the layer from tNames to bNames (without a mirror) then it appears on the bNames layer with the tNames orientation. If you then do a mirror it goes back to tNames but flips the text orientation. I.e. they get out of sync.

Best Regards,

Rachael

Thanks for the explanation.

For some reason, it was not possible to think about doing so. I guess I 'm used to doing what I want, not how I want to.
