Migrating a library

Hello,

i recently installed the fresh eagle 8.1.1 version as an update to the prior 7 version. My question is how to migrate the LBR file which contains my self created components? My aim is to export the board from version 8 as ECAD to create a STEP file later via ecad.io.

Thank you for your support,

Daniel

Hi @daniel.rindt,

I hope you're doing well today. This is pretty simple, the easiest solution is to copy your library from V7.7 into the lbr folder of version 8.1.1. The drawback is that you'll have to migrate the library every time you update.

It's better to place your personal files in the eagle folder in documents. Every install of EAGLE looks for that folder and expects it, in this way you can avoid having to migrate the library every time you update.

Please accept as solution if my post fully resolves or you issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Are you suggesting that we put our custom lbr folder in the same folder as our personal project files?

Hi @chrishogg1114,

I hope you're doing well. Yes I am suggesting that. The eagle folder in documents is easily accessible from the control panel, so you could use and unuse libraries from there.

The separation from the normal lbr directory will also avoid having to move libraries between versions every time you update. We have plans to improve this whole process but for the time being this is what I would recommend.
