Matt, please substantiate your claim.

On the Element14 forums, in the thread Sneak peek: obstacle avoidance and walk around routing in EAGLE v8..., you claimed:

Autodesk operates the NNTP servers on which this forum is based, whether here, on Autodesk.com or behind Eaglecentral.ca.

Last I knew, Element14 is owned by Avnet, and Eagle Central is owned by Stratford Digital, and they both run separate servers from the ones Cadsoft has for the EAGLE NNTP newsgroups.  If you don't know how this works, please check out: Wikipedia - Usenet newsgroup distribution

Does Autodesk own any stake in either Element14 or Eagle Central?  Does Autodesk have any direct involvement with operating Element14 and/or Eagle Central servers?

I certainly didn't read into the post from Matt that they had ownership of either the Element14 or EAGLECentral servers. As far as I know the NNTP servers which were owned by CADSoft are now owned by Autodesk and these are the main servers through which both the Element14 and EAGLECentral forums are synced. Surely Autodesk has the right to post what they choose to post on their own NNTP servers? If others choose to use that NNTP source as part of their own forums then that is their choice too but I'm not sure why Autodesk should then be restricted with what they are allowed to post on their own NNTP servers?

It would be helpful to hear what the present arrangement is with regard to the news servers.

However,I have an actual question/concern about the new router.   I am bothered about the routing past C1 in the video...why does the autoroute encroach directly upon C1 when there is a huge amount of room available for the routing??  Of course, the answer is that it meets the minimum allowable design rule clearance, OK.  While using the absolute minimum (let's say it was 6 mils) might make sense when there is no room for any alternative, that is not the case here.  The preferred amount might be 20 mils, or 35 mils, if there is room to do so. In this case it appears there is such room available.  So really there should be 2 parameters somehow specified-- the preferred amount, and the minimum allowable amount when things get pinched & squeezed.  I have seen this provided in other routers.   When you go to probe, repair or cut a trace you gain a real appreciation for this!  If you can walk within 1 inch of the edge of a sidewalk safely, you can and do so as needed.  However, you mostly walk nearer the center when nobody is headed at you.

Hi qpwj567,

I hope you're having a good day. If you could please post this as a separate thread to not hijack Doug's original question. I think your suggestion is very reasonable and I'll look into what may be happening in that regard. This new routing engine is an insane amount of work so I'm sure there are a lot of details that are still being fleshed out.

Thank you for your participation.

On the Element14 forums, in the thread Sneak peek: obstacle avoidance and walk around routing in EAGLE v8..., Christy-Admin replied:

Autodesk does not own element14. The element14 Community forums continue to partner and link to the CadSoft EAGLE (now Autodesk) forums as we have in the past because the software is of interest to our members.
